Was watching some classics from the last 30 years, and I got to thinking, which styles will make the best, most exciting fights, consistently, most of the time: Bowe/Holyfield Gatti/Ward Marquez/Pacquiao Vasquez/Marquez Basic criteria: more than one fight; and both had to be good. If other, say why....
Gatti - ward, the fight started as a boxing match with gatti trying to outbox ward. but when ward got in dat ass, gatti went back to his old ways and started to bang which lead to an all out brawl
This says it all. The third fight proves once and for all how this 2 were tailored made for each other. Best HW match I've ever seen in my lifetime.
Marquez vs Vasquez - high lvl of skill, both didnt have the best defense, both big punchers with a lot of heart, neither were slow. Id say Corrales vs Castillo but the rematch got messed up by Castillo being unprofessional.
Marquez-Vazquez. What's with all the votes for Gatti-Ward? They had one classic fight, but the other two were one-sided. Gatti won the rematch by a 9-1, 10-0 type decision. In the rubber match, Ward won 2 rounds. One when Gatti broke his hand, and the other when Ward scored a late KD after losing the first 2:55 of the round. Not exactly the most closely contested of rounds.
Ali v Frazier certainly had contrasting styles that fitted like a glove. The light on his feet Ali, able to throw out the long jab on both the forward or reverse move, and the powerful, crouching, bobbing, weaving Frazier. Resulted in an unforgettable trilogy.
Agree, although I want to echo the sentiments on Ali-Fraizer as some of the best heavyweight fights (first and third) I've ever seen.
