Sugar Ray Seales

I remember Doug. How is he doing these day?. Good to hear a name I had forgotten.

 

Sadly Doug passed away in 2002 at only 51 years old.

Sugar Ray Seales was the lone US Gold Medalist from the 1972 Munich Games. He had an amateur record of like 338-12, which is incredible. He was from Tacoma WA and was handled by Joe Klough, who was the head trainer of the Tacoma Boys Club and he produced fighters like Leo Randolph, Johnny Bumphus, Rocky Lockridge, Davey Armstrong, and Dale Grant. Some on this post say that Seales was mismanaged. But this Klough guy really knew his ****, developing the fighters he did in a relatively small city in the PAC Northwest. They kept Seales very active thruoghout his career and got him the fights that would have moved him closer to title contention, but for some reason Seales lost alot of those crossroad fights to guys like Cyclone Hart, Hagler 3, and Allen Minter Then the eye problems ended his career . Very good fighter who came up in a era of a deep Middleweight division .If he was around now he might just have won a belt
