Sultan beat Shannon Briggs 11 rounds to 1, and Holyfield 10 rounds to 2! Many of you picked Briggs to ko Sultan early, and many picked Holyfeild to win! Why is Sultan not getting credit ? Sultan has realisticlly won 21 out of 24 rounds , in his two title fights! Sultan has displayed good hand speed, foot speed, boxing skills, defense , he is crafty at giving angles. WTF do you expect? I can understand not liking his style. But he has been boxing impressively.
People who picked Holyfield to win are going on heart rather than logic. The guy had zero chance here. And I still don't know what to make of the Briggs fight, and Briggs in particular. I don't know how he gets through training camps only to end up having athsma attacks and pneumonia in the ring.
This win does give him more credibility, certainly. Not me, but most on this site expected Ibrag to win, and he did win very decisively. So as you said, you gotta give the man credit. I still have Ibragimov as the weakest of the titleholders, but maybe we need to rethink that.
he's pretty good. and exciting... when he wants to be! the briggs fight i actually didn't mind his tactics, tho boring, were the logical choice for going up against a big hitter like brigss. but against holyfield? come on. he had holyfield stunned on a few occasions, and even hurt in the 10th i think it was. yet instead of trying to finish his opponent off, he backs off and lets holyfield get his breath back. and sultan has very good stamina. i've seen him throw tons of shots verses a younger and way bigger lance whitaker for round after round. but in this fight while it got him the win, it was like... oh my god.... i just realised what sultan has converted into!!! he shall now be known as Sultan "Bad Intentions" Ibragimov! the white Jermaine Taylor! gasp! oh no! :rofl :rofl :rofl
I don´t think you can blame anything on Iggy. He does what it takes to win, and his style is suitable for his size.
I agree , he should of thrown more punches. Sultan has been a little bit too " Mayweatherized" . But if you listen in between rounds, Mayweather was telling him to continue what he is doing.
The win over Briggs was decent. The win over Holyfield does not count for much, at best, its fair. Mora isn't a noteworthy opponent. His win over Friday was okay but beating Whitaker is more impressive. He looked terrible vs. Austin. I am not saying that Ibragimov does not have skills, but he has two good wins (Briggs and Whitaker) and now two fair ones (Friday and 45 year old Holy) and that's about it for right now. Maybe more in the future?
Dont you realize that Sultan signed and was scheduled to fight Chagaev ? Christ , it isnt his fault Chagaev pulled out!! Holyfield was the replacement. The same with Mora , he was a replacement when Briggs claimed he was sick at the last minute.
its not ibragimovs fault he didn't fight chagaev...but he did choose to fight an obviously undeserving holyfield. also...in his last 2 fights he has not faced a guy with the stamina...or remaining footwork to seriously take the fight to him. lets see how he does with a guy who he won't be able to take quick shots at and get away from. still his job is to win and he's done that. even if its boring.
But there was much public demand for the fight. Holyfield is a well known name. Alot of these niave fans acctually thought Holyfield had a chance, and many probably ordered the PPV. There was plenty of idiots that thought Holyfield was going to win his 5th World Title ,and wanted to see it. I think it was finiacial decision made by Ibragimov's promoters, since he was not going to get the unification against Chagaev.
How you can be a fan of such a shitty ass boring fighter is beyond me.. you can call that craptacular performance good, I call it crap. Boxing in the end is in the entertainment business and that, my friend was anything BUT entertaining.
I don't think Ibragimov will beat Klitschko. I do think, however, he would have a decent chance vs Chagaev and Peter.
