I hear people say that ottke was the benefactor of a lot of gift decisions, kinda like an anti-johnson if you will. i saw the fights vs mitchell and reid, and felt he should have lost them two, but are there any other clear cut robberies on this guys resume? he fought a decent level of competition including Reid Starie Mitchell Mundine Branco Johnson Charles Brewer I mean has this guy really had that many gift decisions?
The most frustrating thing about rating Ottke is that he is held in high regard by some people. Even if you think he only lost to Reid and Mitchell, where does that put him in the grand scheme of things? With two losses on his record to both those guys you'd be lucky to find anyone that rated him. But that is essentially what happened.
valid point, i do believe people exagerrate how many gifts he's had, and i really dont wanna watch any more of his fights to verify it or not. but ye even with just mitchell and reid losses, he is at best just an average champion.
I don't think he lost to Mitchell, and it's even arguable that (thanks to the refereeing!), he didn't lose to Reid. In any case, Ottke probably isn't underrated or overrated by the majority of boxing fans - he was a decent but ridiculously flawed fighter with a couple of superb attributes in his prime and legitimate ruler of the very weakest of weight-classes.
the mitchell fight was close, i gave it to byron. the reid fight, well yes it had some close rounds but the referee created a 4 point swing, and that is just bs.
Good example of someone with a solid amateur background, hyped + protected in his own country, just because of his strong background + he never fought outside of Germany... He wasn't a bad fighter, but he shouldn't be regarded as the fighter blindly based on his record!!
i agree he wasnt bad, he certainly wasnt great. i just dont get why people say he had loads of gift decisions.
ye i couldnt believe it when he pulled out that shot! the only fights ive seen of his are vs reid mitchell and mundine. i think he lost to reid and mitchell
A think mundine was a 10 fight veteran by the time he fought ottke to.....typical WBA rankings though a guess the robin reid fight was one of the biggest robberies of the last 20 years
uhm, Ottke won the Mitchell fight clearly. If you scored that for Mitchell, you'll more than likely think he lost to Brewer twice, Larsen, & got a gift td against Tate.
as i said, i didnt watch him vs brewer, larsen or tate. but if you think he lost to these also then fair does :good
In my oppinion the two he should have lost are to Robin Reid and Mads Larsen. There are many others that could have gone either way, but always went Ottke's way.
