tabata will increase both anaerocic and aerobic energy systems, and it only takes 4 minutes of pain which is great, I train some ex fighters and we use tabata sprints on the heavy bag to boost metabolism and general fitness, if they were to get back into the ring for a serious fight however, they would need to do more obviously, but i would still use tabata with any boxing specific exercises.

I you are doing tabata you are doing it for 4 minutes, if you go over that you are not doing tabata. Working your way up to 20 minuts is going to be a gruelling workout, and in my opinion so gruelling you will really put too much strain on the body and central nervous system.

Tabata sprints are all out effort for 20 seconds with 10 sec rest......I find it hard to believe there would be anyone on this earth able to give all out efforts for 20 mins of sprinting (80 sprints)

Try 4 mins of all out and see how you feel

Like Bobby said, Tabata method only lasts for 4 minutes (8 rounds) anything more than that is getting on for HIIT training.

This sounds good. Is it FLAT OUT for 20 seconds then a light jog for 10 seconds.

It's flat out 20seconds then 10 seconds recovery, some people prefer to stop and get themselves together, others who like sprinting and have been doing it for a while can jog the 10sec.

Active recovery is much better than complete rest.

If your conditioning is pitiful like mine then you prefer to jump around and gather yourself.
