Tabata training methods....

    Just started working this into some of my clients programs... Do any of you use this method of training? What excercises do you do? What progress have you had?

    I'm thinking of compound exercises on large muscle groups....

    Bears
    Burpee's
    Press ups
    Squat thrusts
    Grappler (machine)
    Sprints

    Any others?

    Hate those burpees with a passion.

    Btw what are bears in this context?

    i think they are best done with full body exercises such as burpees, sprints, jumping jacks etc

    Explosive military press, preceded by a squat..... In one movement... All over body exercise....

    Also could change for a bear crawl.

    Have used Tabata in skipping, bags and pads. works fine. sprints and burpees however are the best what i´ve seen and felt.

    could someone post a ling to what it is? Iv heard alot of people talking about it, my new training starts next week so trying to get some ideas together

    Do most of bodywork/plyometrics in a tabata protocol. Try to make sets a bit different for them then sprinting to replicate 3-4 min rds. 10-12 exercises targeting different areas of the body, 30s per, 10s breaks, 1 min break between sets. Find it is a great workout and really quick to get thru.

    I find that hard to believe.... 100% exertion?

    and I would lie, why? Yes 100% exertion. When I begin them in my training build ups I can't get through the 4 sets full out, so tend to go 3 sets. After a few weeks 4 full out is no prob. Anyone trying to replicate that I would recommend working their way gradually. 1-3 sets to start. Maybe a few less exercises. And yes, it's hard as hell.

    I thought you wrote 12 rounds. Apoligies. If you perform the Tabata correctly its physically impossible to sustain that kind of workrate. The whole Idea is that it is maximal for that 20 seconds. If you perfrom it submaximally its not tabata.

    Ah no probs. Yea I'm quite familiar with tabata protocol. Have been doing the 8x20s 10s rests on and off for a few years now with sprints, usually coming the stretch with training as an add on to and ceiling breaker for HIIT. I've just found the 20s isn't quite enough when translating to plyometrics, although I did start with them 20s now that I recall.
