It still hasnt quite set in on me yet. He's been pronounced dead 4 times no to mention all the other times he struggled w/drug abuse. A small part of me is still saying it's a bad dream.

I hadn't been to the gym for two and a half weeks because my dad's been ill,but I only found out this morning.I went to the gym with a heavy heart, and all through the workout I tried to think of Johnny and those lightning combinations.I had my gym playlist on(which mostly consists of The Best Of Rocky and AC/DC) and I was doing OK,but when "No Easy Way Out" came on,I must admit I really choked up.I felt like a bit of a soppy poof, but I couldn't help it.
I just thought of the pain and **** that poor guy went through and it ****ed me up a bit.
SJS will verify that Johnny was on my mind a lot lately, and I had reason to believe he was getting a bit better.
Sadly,a lot of younger fans will only discover Johnny now.
But he'll always be an ATG and a legend for me.
    :bowdown:cheers
You've got a team of loved ones waiting to welcome you home.
    So long Champ.:good

Very sad news, but not a suprise either... He was an incredible warrior. I was always afraid for him that his demons would overtake him once he retired. Sad story...

The glorification of Tapia's "Mi vida loca" lifestyle is what drew me not to be so much of a fan of his.

The young men in this forum should take note. This is what the "vida loca" lifestyle leads to. For many, it ends sooner than the 45 years Johnny Tapia lived.

I hope Johnny finally found the peace he could not find living here on earth, though for those who loved him and wanted him sane, its got to be agony just about now. :?

Its a boxing ring and his dedication to it that actually kept Johnny alive all these years. Johnny Tapia was a dedicated 100% warrior inside of a ring!
    RIP Johnny!

Well said. I feel no sympathy for those who choose to live like 45 year old teenage rebels. Time to grow up... Oh, too late.

    No sympathy.

Funny you say that. In the neighborhood I grew up in and still live in, there were many Johnny Tapia's who have come and gone.

Its a sad thing to see up close and personal people you grew up with succumb to the vices that Hollywood movies glorify. :-(
