In kyokushin karate, they have "100 man kumite" matches, where a top fighter will face 100 relatively decent opponents in a row (note: NOT simultaneously!). The goal is to win as many of the matches as possible. Are there any great boxers who could do fairly well against 100 golden gloves level opponents in their own weight class? We'll say 100 amateur length matches, but with professional rules (4x2 minute rounds). Short stops for meals in between. Who could do it?
Well, Sullivan and Fitz both beat several men in a single day, but that was using smaller gloves, if any gloves at all in Sullivan's case.
Have to go with someone who's going to get knockouts and is in good shape. The higher the weight class the harder it gets, most likely, but for HW I'd give Marciano a solid shot. Frazier too.
Eh, I think Marciano would eventually tire. He really had to beat the **** out of some guys to get them out of there. He would blow some of them out with single shots, of course, but he ground a lot of guys down as well.
Top-line punching would be the thing here. A secondary requirment would be stamina and/or exceptional economy. I could see Tyson doing very well until he hit the hill. Sam Langford would be my pick if you had a gun to my head.
Against 'Golden Gloves' level opponents? Julian Jackson at JMW. he'd probabyl annihilate them all. if stamina is believed to be an issue with him you could say Phillip Holliday, who could probably throw punches all day at amateur opponents :good The Pacman is a genuine and obvious choice.
True but we're talking amateur level opponents here, not guys like Jersey Joe Walcott or even Don Cockells. Marciano's stamina is just out of this world, Tyson's also a good pick despite not having Rocky's endurance simply because he'd blast most of them out early.
Sonny Liston. He bangs everyone out of there and can out-box any if entirely neccessarily. If it's an indoor arena than Foreman is a dark horse. Tyson and Marciano aren't bad picks either.
At MW, against amateur opponents; Prime Roy Jones could probably knock 100 amateurs out in the first round in a row without breaking a sweat. Let's be honest, that's probably true.
He fulfils all my requirments, doesn't he? Maybe he's a little TOO economical though? Guys might be able to stay away from him for longer than he would be comfortable with as the fights dragged by. Lopez, at the other end of the spectrum, would be a much better choice.
