To the untrained eye, to the casual fan or the viewers that just tune in to see a great fight once or twice a year he doesn't appear to be extraordinary. True boxing fans can appreciate how great he is, because we see the little things he does. Michael Jordan, Kobe, Roy Jones, Ali, Tiger Woods, Peyton Manning, Federer all these guys only need(ed) one chance to display themselves and people were convinced they were experiencing something special. Due to Floyd Mayweathers style, or maybe even lesser grasp on greatness, people dont get that from watching him. That is why I feel he gets so much criticism. And it brings into question why he is avoiding the top welterweights. :deal
He gets criticsim because he's an arrogant, direspectful arsehole. He may be a great fighter but class is something he'll never have.
Very good point, I also believe that his defense first style isn't the most attractive to casual fans who love all out action. Perfect example would be all the fighters with the biggest fan bases Trinidad, Tyson, Hearns, Leonard, Duran etc. they all had explosive offensive talent and that is what catches the publics eye
Floyd had the world in his hand until the Baldo fight. Plus Hoya fight was not great. Hatton was a great fight for him, but instead of fighting Cotto as the world would like, he fights Hoya again. That why people don't want to see him, plus everything yall said

Im a fan of his talent. But I find it difficult to be a fan of the man. He talks **** and acts like a punk. He throws money in the air to show off. Not the type of person I can relate to, or would want to relate to. When he actually fights a top fighter, he's an artist. As a person, he's a dick.
You said it yourself. The problem with Floyd is that he is avoiding the top welterweights in his division whilst simuletaneously claiming to be the greatest fighter that has ever lived. That is Floyd's problem. That is Floyd's only problem.
Floyd is hands down the best in the world right now. Though, if he is calling himself the greatest of all time, he must fight Cotto and a number of others for that mantle. After Cotto/Mosley/Margarito/Williams/Quintana, sort of thing, no one could question him. Oh, wait, after those guys he will be ducking Kelly Pavlik, Joe Calzaghe, David Haye, and young Klitschko. With Klitschko's glass jaw, one wonders why Floyd still is afraid to fight him. Maybe Floyd is trying to hide his own weak chin that has never been tested? Oh well, something to think about.
I feel that Mayweather's fall from grace with boxing fans began with the Gatti fight where he sold himself as the villain. After that fight the emphasis shifted from people paying to watch Floyd fight to people wanting to see him lose.
