what fights stand out to you where the wrong winner was announced? Just got done Azumah Nelson vs Jesse James Leija I yesterday and had forgotten that he (Nelson) was initially announced as the winner of a SD with 116-115 being read but actually 115-115. Do any other fights stand out to you? Either a wrongly calculated card or one where it changed the official result of the fight?
The Harada-Famechon fight was at first announced as a draw… but was later changed to a win for the Australian.
Harada-Famechon I was initially announced as a draw before Willie Pep changed his decision to make Famechon the winner. When McTigue defended his Light-Heavy title against Young Stribling in 1923, the referee first declared a draw, then announced that he'd changed his verdict to a Stribling win...Before the decision was changed back again to a draw. Apparently when the referee had initially called a draw, the crowd went berserk and some of its less than desirable members were threatening to string him up. So he altered his decision to try and keep them sweet, before going back to his original draw call once he'd got safely away. Struggling to think of any others off the top of my head....

It was a half hour later after NYSAC Commissioner Robert Christenberry, C B Powell and Commission Secretary Dan Dowd huddled in a dressing room that they came back with the 'official' decision. "Giardello won the ten-round bout on a split-decision but New York commissioners Robert Christenberry and C B Powell altered the scorecard of judge Joe Agnello at the ringside, making Graham the winner." Young Stribling vs. Mike McTigue from 1923 was first announced as a draw, then a victory for Stribling, and then three hours after the bout was over, the referee reversed it back to a draw.
Mike Quarry vs Ned Hallacy. There was a headline that read, 'Quarry goes to bed a winner, wakes up to a draw.' Sometime during the night the commission called Quarry's win over Hallacy a draw for their local boy.
Michalczewski Rocchigiani #1. Dariusz left the ring as a loser that night. He is hardly given credit for the rematch though. Real nice performance and Rocchigiani is a tough night's work for anybody kind of opponent.
Mark Johnson vs Rafael Marquez 1. Johnson was originally declared the winner of the fight when the scorecards were read. An announcement was made minutes later saying there was a scoring error but Johnson was still the winner. Then after the Angel Manfredy-Julio Diaz main event, another announcement was made saying Marquez was the winner by split decision after the scorecards were reviewed again. Carlos Cuadras vs Juan Francisco Estrada. Michael Buffer originally announced Cuadras as the winner, sparking a celebration in Cuadras' corner, but Buffer quickly said a mistake had been made and declared Estrada the winner.
