Do you really think he still believed to win after he was already all broken after the 1st? In the second round he could only threw 2 or 3 punches for desperation before getting massacred. I think he realizes Drago is invincible after the first serious attack suffered in the 1st round and he understands he will lose his life when he salutes for the last time his wife imo. Can be said he committed suicide after the 1st. He had to retire before the 2nd. Drago straight hands were at least 5 times more powerful than Wlad's the same the blows to the body were at least 5 times more powerful than Tyson's. Just enough to kill an old retired fighter.
So I will assume you are 10 years old and never watched boxing before. I seen guys take a horrible beating in real boxing and then come back in and win. George Foreman after he got knocked down by Lyle in the 4th was taking a beating early on in the 5th round. Foreman didn't quit because he believe he could win and he did win. When Foreman was beating the stuffing out of Joe Frazier, Frazier kept getting up because he still believe there has to be some way he can turn the tide and win. Archie Moore was knocked down 3 times in the first I believe by Yvon Durrell, Moore got up fought hard and eventually stopped Yvon. Also little kid Apollo gave his wife a nod as a way to say don't worry about me I will be okay. This is why little kids like you shouldn't be allowed to make post here.
Bit of an obvious choice but Yank Durham could have seen the writing on the wall a bit earlier when Frazier first met Foreman. I'll come back to this. There have been a few where I've either thought 'Throw the towel in' or when a ref has counted to ten before waving the fight off when the guy is clearly unconscious (Patterson-Johannson 2 - why did the ref count? What did Ingo's corner see when they looked at their man twitching on the floor?). Actually. Here's a question. What happens when the two fighters speak different languages? What are the rules, if any, of what language a ref should count in should a knockdown occur?
The thyroid meds screwed up Ali's prep. He should have taken a return bout after his excellent performance against Berbick where he was clearly robbed. The 80's would have been a good decade for Ali, up until Tyson.
No ref would risk his life like that. You’re talking about a roided-to-the-gills Drago intent on killing a man, and he might not care which man.
Right and then you realize you see this all the time in MMA or boxing. A ref would either grab the arm or even pull down a fighter to stop him from hitting a defenseless fighter. So even in the case of Rocky. The moment Drago pushed the ref he would of been DQ. But if the ref allowed the fight to continue the moment he deemed Apollo to be unable to defend himself he would of stopped the fight. He Drago would of tried to land a few more punches a good ref would of tried to grab his arm or some way stop him from landing those punches. But for movie reasons Apollo had to die to further the plot.
Sorry for continuing to derail the thread, but when I first saw Rocky 4 in 1985, I had assumed that the ref was attempting to stop the fight himself, and that is why he got shoved aside. Rocky throwing in the towel at that point was likely not going to stop Drago from pounding Creed to death. I never really understood the logic in that scene once the ref was tossed aside, literally.
