I dont mate no, I personaly believe like you do that the fighter makes the belt. I do believe in the ring Title though, even though it has some major problems
The attraction for Ricky was the WBU belt at the time coz thats what he made his money off of,i know the WBU isnt a worth while belt now but at the time fighters were getting half decent money for fighting for it thats the point im making.
They got decent money for it by conning casual fans into thinking it was a genuine world title. I don't think thats something to shout about for the WBU.
Of course Ricky Hatton was proud of the money he made conning all those fans crammed into the MEN that he was fighting for a real world title against a mix of journeymen, tomato cans and vaguely decent fighters. Ricky Hatton's 'reign of terror' over the WBU is probably the single biggest point anybody could make against the WBU.
Yes. Most of them were football fans that had no clue. When they hear 'World Boxing Union'' title it kind of gives the impression its a world title fight believe it or not. This was the whole thing Ricky played off, very cleverly.

10-15000 working class people who dont know **** about boxing, most of them didn't know who the best fighter of our sport was until hatton fought him.
