Hi there. One of our writers did a series of articles about the top 10 fighters who never became a champion. Here is a link to the number 10 position (Jim Driscoll)- http://v2journal.com/-top-ten-uncrowned-champions-10-jim-driscoll.html Would love some feedback and thoughts on the top 10. Here is the opening few paragraphs: Continued at http://v2journal.com/-top-ten-uncrowned-champions-10-jim-driscoll.html
He's got some of the right names on there. I'm not sure that I would have Peter Jackson in the top 10. Nor Harry Wills. Not when you can pick from guys like CoCoa Kid, Wesley Ramey, Wee Willie Davies, Holman Williams, Les Darcy and Dave Shade. You might even consider Jack Chase and Jeff Smith.
god there's many many names. I mean guys who were robbed of the title like Tyson Everett (think i got the name wrong but he schooled eacalara) and tiberi. Then you have guys who were clear number 1 whilst champ was away at war like bivins and the rest of the row. Then you have guys who fought in the claimant era and never received universal recognition as champ (it's how people think belts should be viewed today) like McFarland and the gibbons brothers. Then there's massively talented guys like Ramey and Wills who beat a wealth of contenders but were never given a title shot. Hard to narrow down a top ten.
Almost forgot about THIS guy. Terrible to fight: http://www.josportsinc.com/catalog/view.php?id=12732
That's a good point luf. There are guys that actually got flat out robbed in title fights. Literally should have been crowned the champ and got punted in the balls instead.
Yeah, if you add up all the guys who were 'nearly champ', 'definitely deserving of a shot', 'great fighters with no title' .... it's bound to be more than the number who were actual champs !
It's hard to pick 10 and it does come down to personal choice once you get past the obvious few. Reading the article its clear there is a lot of good info in it and a decent effort went into writing it.
