A little something for the weekend. Who are those neighbourhood ticket sellers who made the pulse race and had the foundations of your local venue shaking ? I've picked 10 that I have watched live many times but feel free to nominate any Fighter you feel belongs in this category.

    1. Pat Cowdell
    2. Tony Sibson
    3. Kostas Petrou
    4. Jason Welborn
    5. Darren McDermott
    6. Martin McGough
    7. Roy Skeldon
    8. Paul Chance
    9. Mike Whalley
    10. Martin Gethin.

Now let's have your local heroes.

Can't name 10 but 2,3 and 4 in this list really peaked the local interest in boxing around Huddersfield. Granted 3 of them graduated from small halls at some point but still spent alot of time there.

    1. Tyrone Nurse
    2. Mark Hobson
    3. Dale Robinson
    4. James Hare

U could add Liam patrick Walsh to your list. He was later down the line than 2,3,4 but shared many a show with Tyrone.
Never left the small halls iirc, except for that 1 time on PF. Very well supported and had a bullish style that was exciting.

I knew there was something wrong with you! Haha

I'm from Huddersfield but been down in London for the best part of a decade now.

I've seen Josh Warrington in a small hall. I was there when he beat Chris Male in Dudley. Believe it or not, that was seen as an upset at the time.

Nigel Benn made Seconds out on ITV in the late 80s.

The Collins brothers (George and Tony) made their name in the small halls.

Peter Buckley deserves mentions on this sort of thread.

My pick though would be Tom Collins. A power punching Light Heavy with a softish chin, what was not to like?!

Some good lads on this list saw most of them live. Roy Skeldon has a gym just round the corner from me

A more modern classic (a mere 23 years old now!) would be Southern Area Bantamweight title fight between the two unbeaten youngsters Spencer Oliver and Patrick Mullings. A classic of the genre:

Skeldon, now that brings back memories. I remember him being rewarded at the end of his career with a Commonwealth title shot in Australia. With another Small Hall vet Judas Clottey, fighting Guy's brother Troy on the same bill.

Both duly gave the brothers decent 12 round workouts.
