yes. gamboa fell but he will get up and be better than he was before. he needs to make adjustments here and there and if he realises that he will be great.

His chin is glass I'm afraid. He's more talented that Crawford but that chin is glass. Doesn't hold and forgets about defense when he attacks. He attacks like crazy when hurt and completely forgets about defense. He's got balls, more than Crawford who held like crazy, but that'a not a good strategy.
It might be a little too late in Gamboa's career to make the necessary changes. Gamboa/Crawford was similar to Hamed/Barrera in that the naturally gifted fighter lost due to his opponent fighting a very disciplined fight.
True, but Gamboa is very different to Hamed and I believe has more in the tank than Hamed did when he fought Berrera. There were a lot of differences between Gamboa and Hamed, not only are their styles different. One thing about Hamed Barrera was that Hamed had a different trainer then he was used to and the talking in the corner got him out of his his normal style. Also Hamed apparently was weight drained. Not from a catchweight like we see in today's boxing, but just from Hamed gaining too much weight in between fights. Hamed was weight drained and malnourished going into the Barrera fight, whereas Gamboa wasn't Gamboa was in top physical condition. Whereas Hamed's losing to Barrera had a lot to do with his condition and his new cornerman, Gamboa losing had more to do with "being impatient" and wildly swinging away in the ring after the first four rounds. Hamed's usual style was to swing wildly at times, but to do it unpredictably to catch his opponent. But that style can only work if you are in top condition. Hamed was not in top condition due to having to struggle to make weight. (not due to a catchweight like Mayweather-Canelo for example, just due to his own lifestyle) I would also like to add that I agree Barrera was more disciplined than usual for the Hamed fight. I don't think Crawford was as disciplined vs Gamboa as Barrera was vs Hamed, and I think Gamboa also "beat himself" in the ring more than Hamed "beat himself" in the ring vs Barrera. It's splitting hairs, but they are important distinctions. I hope this post sparks a good discussion. When you look at Hamed's physical condition vs Barrera, compared to his earlier fights, and then you look at Gamboa's physical condition, compared to his earlier fights, Gamboa despite the layoff looked every bit as skilled as he once was. Hamed though was clearly not his usual self that night.
Hamed was one if my favorite fighters coming up. Guy was talented, hard hitter, a guy you loved to hate. He was an entertainer and knew how to promote himself which is a rarity specially in the lower divisions nowadays. He was the first lightweight to ever get paid a million $$$ for a fight. I remember losing a $20 bet on him against Barrera. I thought Barrera was in over his head. But Barrera showed he was world class that day. He was more disciplined and focused. I didn't know about the weight struggle Hamed had nor the trainer change until now so that might had made a difference but from what I saw that night Barrera Had His number.

Being cuban I'm a bit biased but I do think laras experience and boxing savvy can outbox the Mexican as long as he stays away from canelos power shots. Lara cannot fight him toe to toe or he will get koed.
Yes, but he isn't focused, and it's not exactly a skill he can develop at his age. Mentality is a major part of boxing. Same things can be said for lots of fighters, Amir Khan, for instance. Weak chin, but quick and powerful - if he had the mentality to back it up he could be a great fighter. But he doesn't. Victor Ortiz - mental weakling, with great ability. The list is endless. It's like saying; "if Paulie Malignaggi had KO power..." he doesn't.
I agree with the mentality point but Khan isn't powerful but he does have the mentality to back his game up. He is delusionally confident.
Gamboa just needs to move down to 130, it's clear 135 is too much for him. There's no lack of quality fighters at 126-130 so a move down makes sense.
