this would be the easiest way for tua to become the world champion. i very much doubt maskaev could outbox him for 12 rounds, the first time he gets caught - it's over. maskaevs guard also isn't extremely tight, this is the fight tua always dreamed of. unfortunately there wasn't a chinny champion in the 90s when tua was in his prime and this fight might never take place because IF maskaev gets beyond peter :nut, vitali klitschko waits :bbb.
David Tua In April 1997 David Tua (27-0-0) vs Oleg Maskeav (10-1-0) Tua won TKO 11 so yes Tua could beat Maskeav even say in 8 months time because he has already beaten him.
i know tua already beat him but it wasn't for a world title. my point is that tua must be a little frustrated since he beat two guys who became champion later.
The big fat immobile Tua gets outpointed by Maskaev.Oleg was giving a prime Tua fits before David lowered the boom. Now, Oleg boxes better and Tua is slowed down to a plod.He looked in better shape against Montana, at around 230 or so, but he was more effective in the 220's.
yeah he is a much different fighter just like Tua is now. But Maskeav is 38 and will be taken soon and it might as well be by a Heavyweight that can draw the crowds back in Tua.
Considering how tricky Tua found the first fight, back when he was in his fabled godlike mid-220s form, I don't think Tua winning should be written in stone anywhere.
Tua is also a different fighter now. He always showed the vulnerability to boxers, but his workrate and hunger usually created the openings in the later rounds. Now he is poorly conditioned and slower. Not so sure Maskaev would win, but Tua isnt the same fighter he was when they fought the first time.
it's also a myth that maskaev has gotten better? why should he - because he is close to 40 now? because he has grown a chin? he lost to tua in 97, then he beat a couple of bums and rahman, who is a-/b+ fighter, but that doesn't mean so much because maybe he just suits maskaev. in 2000 he was knocked out cold by johnson, next fight he fell from an armpunch from lance whitaker(!!!). then in 2002 he lost again by ko to corey sanders. after that he took the bum route to a title fight against rahman, who as previously mentioned, suits him. he is just waiting to get dropped again.
