Talking about the newest Documentary "Tyson"? I thought it was really excellent, good for Iron Mike for being so honest and candid.
Didn't watch it but watched the one that shows up first when you type tyson documentary in youtube, and it really is sad. The guy just wanted to be loved and wanted to love others (I'm sure this'll get the budding comedians to come up with some **** jokes, out of spite , but remember, for example, how he wiped the sweat off LL's face in the postfight interview ), a kind of familial atmosphere like he had at Cus D'Amato's place. Really sad. There's a shocking scene where he's, before a match crying and It's not really clear why, I think it may have been that he was worried he'll lose and Teddy Atlas is consoling him. There's a point in the interview early on, around that scene where Atlas says that he's not very strong (I guess this is public record) and says smth like "I guess God though, 'well, I'll give him a strong body but...'" and he didn't finish it. But he's basicly (or was at the time) a big kid, scared kid. I mean, imagine how, and this is terrible to say, especialy now that I've watched the documentary and gained some sympathy for him, but, how weak you have to be to be scared when you've got the tools he had. He needed to be nurtured and given a lot of love and support. It's interesting how he kinda "grew" a personality as he got older and more confident, well, he didn't grow it, he always had it but became more confident, and how kind unusual it is to see, when you hear all those stories about him being shy around girls etc. and than how confident and adept he became, with women AND interviews etc.
Brilliant documentary, I've got the Platinum Knockout Edition. Raw honesty and pure emotion, he really poured his heart into it. You guys should watch "Fallen Champ, the untold story of Mike Tyson" too, it only goes up until prison as it was made in 1993, but it's highly insightful into his career. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=006B5E3F860C76B7
