he went back down to 175 in 2003 after trying to make fights with holyfield, sanders, tyson and even making overtures to lewis. tyson was the main fight jones wanted because of the huge payday that was going to be involved but tyson didn't have his act together at the time and then went on to get ko'd by danny williams.
ruiz hit jones one time clean in the first round and that was it for the entire fight. jones was great that night. the tyson that lost to williams trained to fight for about 2 or 3 rounds. he would quit on his stool or get ko'd at some point vs jones.

The Ruiz fight almost was not made because he dragged his feet for so long..........earlier after running his mouth of fighting a washed up Buster Douglas he went MIA.........he HAD to move back down because VK was his mandatory and no way in hell would he have taken the fight or ANY serious challenge at Hwt, lol , Lewis, he literally begged Jones to fight him. Anyway, Tyson by massacre even the totally washed up version, he would walk right tru him and that would be that because Jones had nothing powerful in his arsenal to make Mike respect him. None.
It seems I'm getting old if someone thinks RJJ could defeat Tyson at any time (unless some meant time-machine to match prime RJJ with completely shot Tyson). Even past-prime Tyson was dangerous for a while, and even in 2004 Williams had to take his share of punishment before Tyson quit. Maybe prime RJJ could decision Tyson from McBride fight, but the problem is that he was shot himself at this time.

Tyson would likely be all wrong for Tyson, Tyson could literally crush Jones even though Jones durability was better at HW in 03. Tyson also doesn't have reach/height disadvantages he'd usually have. At this stage of his career though if Jones can get out of the first 2 rounds he would have an immobile target to tee off on and possibly score a UD against, thats an outside chance but possible 1

I thought this fight was being talked about in 2003, either way Tyson takes Rjj out, If you watch tyson against etienne, he may not have been technically sound, but he was in good shape, i cant see roy keeping his wits if mike connects anything flush
Tyson is the absolute worst matchup for Roy Jones that you can think of. Even a shot Tyson would have at least a 50/50 shot, imo.
So are you saying that if Jones got hit with that left Uppercut Williams did in the first round against Mike, he would have survived? The moment that uppercut landed, Jones' eyes would have shut & he would have been put cold before he even hit the Canvas! Williams was in space when it landed & it was only for the fact that Danny knew how to hold that he survived!
