Not really. As a norm I'd rather have the best fighters fight in peak condition rather than issues surrounding the damage taken in previous rounds play into who will win. And while K-1 and Prizefighter are fun, I don't know what format you could use that would allow a single elimination tournament to be sanctioned in America without seriously favouring wrestlers.
It's fun if it goes well, but there is so much that can go wrong, and you end up with people getting injured, guys winning the whole thing despite being an alternate. The Filho/Misaki tournament just sort of sucked because the winner got armbarred in the semi-final.
Might be kinda cool to have something like this as a bi annual thing, and enforce a heavyweight limit. Say nobody over 215-220 would be allowed to compete. What might be interesting is seeing how guys that are middleweights might come in closer to 200-210, and guys that are light heavies come in closer to 220, true heavies would be sol, but I'm not interested in seeing someone like Cain against GSP tbh. There would have to be some huge perks to get guys to compete, something like a default % of ppv's they compete in on top of whatever they currently make. Very likely the perks would by default include something like a boost/ push in line to a title shot, if not a guaranteed title shot for winning such a competition in a contract.
