Wins that should’ve gone down as ATG wins, but get underrated. For me, Michael Spinks beating Qawi was an underrated ATG win, probably underrated because it was a boring fight, but it was still a great win. Lewis beating Holyfield, people like to say Holyfield was past it, but in reality he was coming off of the best form of his career with 3 of his best performances against Tyson twice and the Moorer rematch. Jones beating Hopkins. What are some of your picks?
Freddie Steele bombing out future LHW champ & HW title challenger Lesnevich in 2. Battling Battalino defeating future longtime FW champ/HoFer Freddie Miller. Henry Armstrong being the only fighter ever to stop Petey Sarron in 150-plus bouts.
Emile Griffith beating Dick Tiger Ismael Laguna beating Carlos Ortiz and vice versa Antonio Cervantes beating Nicolino Locche and vice versa Wilfred Benitez beating Antonio Cervantes Roy Jones Jr beating James Toney and Bernard Hopkins Sumbu Kalambay beating Mike McCallum Ernesto Marcel beating Alexis Arguello Lionel Rose beating Fighting Harada Chucho Castillo beating Rubén Olivares
Willie Monroe beating Hagler. Marvin was a long way from the terrific champion that he would become but Monroe scored a punch perfect win over Hagler. Hagler only lost 3 times with the Marvelous one only recognising this defeat as legitimate. By all accounts it wasn´t even close. It made Hagler a better fighter and the following year he twice koed Monroe.
Thomas Hearns beating Virgil Hill is about the best example I can think of. Hearns was past prime and fighting at a division that wasn’t his best. Hill was prime and undefeated and viewed as the best in his weight class. A future hall of fame claimant too. That win has been all but forgotten. Another one was Simon Brown stepping up to 154 and creaming the living crap out of Terry Norris
100% agree. I can remember people were favoring Canelo to beat Mayweather and as soon as he got schooled the excuses were coming in like no tomorrow.
I thought that was a great win also... Hill was undefeated amd had something like 10 or 11 defenses. But people don't like Hill's style.
