The splendid South African Brian Mitchell had a really nice jab he could use a lot of different ways.

Sometimes you’d see him throw a lot of 1-2-1 combos, with the last jab serving to get him back at the end of mid-range where he wanted to be rather than allowing himself to get pulled inside by his own momentum. He really controlled distance with it.

It was also disruptive in that he’d throw a jab (or two, or three) when the opponent started to throw a combination and cause the opponent to stop short from completing the combo or being knocked just enough off kilter that the rest of the combo missed.

And he’s kind of tap-tap-tap with it and when the opponent decided ‘there’s nothing to his jab’ and step forward, they’d run into a stiff one square in the face.

    Truly a master boxer.

These were two that immediately came to mind.

JCC had a real good jab that he used seamlessly within is incredible arsenal.

And Carlos Monzon had a jab that he would switch up in speed, lull his opponent and then SNAP.

What a great post and Mitchell never gets the credit he deserves.

I throw in Buster Douglas, Thomas Hearns, Orlin Norris (highly effective considering his short reach)

One upon a time, some people were saying Golota had the best heavyweight jab since Larry Holmes.

With the focus on just the one fight, Mike Rossman’s jab in the first Galindez fight was something to see. An entity unto itself.
