Yes. I allways say that this is the most exciting weight division in boxing.

By the time 2009 is over Miguel Cotto, Andre Berto, and a soon to be retired Shane Mosley will find themselves fighting over the top spot at 147 pounds. Especially if Manny stays at 140 pounds.

In a rematch, Shane will beat Cotto. Mosely was breaking Miguel down in the last two rounds , but ran out of time. Next time , Cotto gets stopped.

If Cotto fights Jennings, ten either rematches Margo in June or fights Berto/Clottey, then he will be able to fight either Berto/Clottey in December time.

However, what will Shane be doing? I predict Cotto will fight Jennings (and beat him much in the same way he destroyed Gomez, Jennings is that kinda' level) and then fight Berto in June (rather than Margo)

Now, Berto has speed and some power, but I think Cotto will beat the bejeesus outta him. Berto brings nothing that Cotto hasn't seen before, other than the WBC belt (which will be strapped around the waist of a genuine champion if Cotto wins)

And I think Cotto then goes on to fight Mosley. People think Mosley will destroy Cotto this time, but Cotto can do what Margo cannot....go backwards. And his slipping of punches has got better since the Mosley fight. However, as slipping punches from Sugar Shane is a lot different to slipping punches from the ponderous Tijuana Tornado (although he couldn't keep that up), I think Cotto-Mosley 2 will be a similar affair to the first fight.

Cotto by close decision in a fight where he gets more hurt than the last time, but also puts more hurt on Shane than the first time.

Then....Clottey in April/May 2010. THEN we will see an Undisputed Welterweight champ!

If all goes according to plan, and when we're talking of fighters of THIS high calibre, nothing is certain.

I hope this rematch gets done. It's gonna be a very entertaining fight. But I dont see Mosley stopping Cotto. Mosley landed some hard shot against Cotto and he recoverd quickly to win the UD. The second fight should have more action.

good post but the key difference in a Cotto v Mosley 2 is the fact that Mosley would be the champ. And lets be honest, the first fight could have gone either way... but went Cotto's favor b/c he was the champ and still a young rising star. Very similar to the outcome of the berto v collazo fight. Berto got the W b/c he was the champ and a rising star. Also, I'm sure Mosley will keep Nazim in his corner and it seems that he brings the absolute best out of the aged fighters he trains. Good fight either way and I can't wait to see what 2009 has in store for the WW division.

BTW, you can't forget the 3 division destroyer PW when you talk about the rising elite stars of boxing. This guy got beat by Margs loaded gloves* for 12 and still got the W.

*can't be proven, but would make since if you look at the 180 degree swing in momentum after the 6th.

Ran out of time....all fighters get 12 rounds.....you think it would have been different?

Cotto said that, why trade with him the last two rounds.....he knew he was ahead.

Cotto beat him the first time...was stronger and faster...Cotto prevails again.

If I was certain that Williams could come back down to 147 (post-MW/JMW excursions) and still fight as he did, there genuinely isn't anyone in the WW division I'd pick to beat him, even Shane.

Nazim Richardson will bring a different gameplan....though I think Cotto will still find a way to win.

I actually think he's going to come back stronger. Mentally he will less destroyed after seeing Margarito be beaten he will no longer think 'I was destroyed by a Terminator' he will think I had the wrong game plan and 'damn, if this guys gloves really are loaded I'm a tough SOB for staying in there that long'.

I'm pretty sure williams could gut out 7lbs to make the WW limit. The only L he has was against quintana and got his rematch and DESTROYED him in 1 round. That was the only time I doubted williams, but he definately redeemed himself. Quintana had the night of his life and then paid severely for it in the rematch. I think PW is top 5 in all 3 weight divisions he is fighting in.
