3 simple options. How good was he? Something in between means he was world level at his best but neither an ATG in terms of skill or legacy, nor a fraud/oaf who got to the top just because of size and matchmaking
He's up there with the SHW champions, he's not an all time great but a legitimate champion. As over 80% already voted on my thread. Where is the option for legit world champion? I can see one option for "good fighter" but the second option is the only one that applies to being a champion, so I picked that one. Primo was a world champion.
Because the poll is about his skill, there is no option that contains the word champion. Its irrelevant, Leon Spinks was a legitimate champion. Thats not what the poll is about
My answer would be somewhere between 2 and 3. He is an ATG. He is most definitely a class below Lewis and Wlad. He is somewhere around Bowe imo.
The reason I can't put him along side bowe is this.. I can never see primo defeating holyfield in there fight in 92 but I can see riddick ko in sharkey. I understand it's not necessarily head to head your basing your debate on but it does make things a little clearer. But I'm not joining in the primo kicking. So that I see him as more a Bruno type rather than bowe. Imo
I don't see the need for this thread. Carnera was the best fighter in the world at one point. Is he as good as some who came after him? Of course not.
Bowe definitely has the best win between the two. I have them really close because they both won and defended the title twice. Both had a lot of natural gifts and developed talents. Bowe had the better win, but it seems that Primo competed at a higher level. Either way, I think it's hard to separate the two into different classes of fighters.
Maybe poll options should be A. Bum fraud B. Journeyman fraud C. Good fighter D. ATG E. Elite Great Or something scaling like that.
That's fair enough rez. That s your opinion and we're all entitled to one. Some fighters I like and regard highly others may not. It's why I have respect for a lot of posters on here, because they all bring something to the table and hopefully we can learn something new from them. I just try and keep an open mind on things and try to be as balanced as possible regarding fighters.
The results of the poll speak for themselves. Neither of the two parties who generated most of the 50+ pages in the Carnera Bowe thread is particularly representative of opinion on this forum. The vast majority of people sit somewhere between rightly or wrongly.
