Willie Pastrano seemed to use Willie Pep's style pretty well and he even became champion. I remember a Tony Pep who used Pep's style but lost to Ricky Hatton and Mayweather and never really had any wins against any noteworthy opponents.

Has there been anyone else who has tried to imitate Willie's style?

Quick and to the point jg... lol, good point though.

I heard Ray Mancini say that used to box like Pep. Never seen footage though.

Willie moved in way that one did not expect. I think Ali did a decent job of copying Robinson's style. He was able to move, stop, and fire...Move again.

Pep fiented, punched, moved and punched again in what seemed like the same movement. He moved at angles, in situations that I have a hard time understanding.

Pep's fight style was a look into a genius' mind. It cannot be correctly applied if you are not a genius at copying Pep's though process in the ring.

Knew Willie well. Even he didn't know why he did what he did...'n the galling thing is: He spent more time at the track than in the gym.

Willie was a WUNDERKIND. Spent more time chasin' girls than roadwork. All the synapses were in his DNA.

He was a terrible trainer. Couldn't get it through his head why boxers couldn't do what he did.

he must've run a ton to be able to use his style for 15 round fights. do you have any clue how much he ran a day?

:lol:He said that in jest about his fight with Jose Luis Ramirez when he switched up his usual tactics drastically. That was far from his typical style.

Perhaps Boom Boom had that same surprise reverse gear stylewise that Gene Fullmer had. As I recall, Mancini won big over Ramirez.

Two things you could never put together, N: Willie 'n running in the same sentence. He did less than James Toney.

He was a hybrid: Part water bug, part flake, 200% stand-up comic.
