He showed what a resilient fighter he is. I have never seen Cotto try to win more than in any fight than the one we watched. Cotto was definitely competitive, and some of those rounds were close. Although I only actually gave him probably 2 rounds (Maybe 1 or another were a draw).

When the fight was at the center of the ring Mayweather was rather dominant. Cotto's defense was a little leaky. He got hit with a lot of shots but showed his toughness. I was screaming for Cotto to move his head a little bit, at least from the right hands.

I must admit, I may have over-emphasized Cotto's physicality as an issue. Cotto used his jab to great effect to both the body and head (Although I screamed for him to double it more to get Floyd reacting). When Mayweather initiated, he was controlling the fight. But when Cotto initiated, and pressured Mayweather toward the ropes he had some success. While Mayweather showed some capabilities on the inside. Cotto did plenty of good damage with Mayweather on the ropes. I do feel in some sense that I was validated in thinking that Cotto's best chances were a pressure-based strategy, rather than a box-move based strategy. Cotto was outgunned in that department, although his movement gave him a fairly good 6th round if I remember correctly.

The biggest issue seemed to be his stamina, which most anticipated. Cotto worked like such a warrior in the 8th round, I knew he had to be just about near empty after that exertion. But what an exciting and action-packed round that was. The fight was very exciting and action-packed. While Cotto had success attacking. I wished he had worked on some dimensions to his in-fighting. I was screaming for Cotto to shift to his right and hit Cotto with some left hooks up the middle of Floyd's most vulnerable area of his defense. But Cotto seemed smart to know the middle was where Floyd was most hittable.

While Floyd has very good stamina, it showed that he's not a high work-rate fight. He likes to fight when he wants to and doesn't like to have to over-work himself. This showed against a fighter whose biggest Achilles heel was his stamina. This leave some intrigue left to the idea of a Pac fight.

A very exciting, action-packed fight. Cotto impressed me and made me proud. He fought his heart out, and did far better than I actually imagined. Floyd performed well, too, and showed he was game and tough. I think this fight may have illustrated that Floyd isn't a high activity fighter, and that his Ring IQ may be slightly overestimated (Considering Cotto may have had his best success in the 2nd half of the fight. Which is the opposite of what everyone thought). I also think it suggests that Cotto may have been the man capable of beating Floyd at 140 pounds (Frankly, Floyd had a higher work-rate in that division. But he was smaller, less confident, and less physically impressive).

    What are you guys thoughts?

Awesome fight. Cotto was surprising usually he would be back pedaling in the 6th round. He
wasn't instead he managed to bloody Floyd's nose. I was surprised.Mayweather Floyd didn't have the power to back Cotto up.

    Cotto EVT12 Floyd, clear-cut & resounding imo.

Floyd was on a slippy slope wearing an S&M studded robe into the ring & having Beiber hold one of his belts :-(

Despite the fruity socks Cotto exceeded expectations & gave Floyd his hardest fight in years, I thought he won 3 or 4 rounds but he clearly won the EVT, although Merchant nearly stole it with his interview at the end.

In other news, Mosely EVT12 Canelo & in the fight of the night an extremely rare joint EVT win/draw for Huck & Afolabi.

    Expert Analysis. :deal

Cotto showed tremendous guts and resiliency in the face of being over-matched in the skill department. Quite a fight and event. Thank you Mr. Cotto! :happy

Bull****. Cotto refused to give a post fight interview and the crowd that cheered him on through the fight turned on him and booed him out of the arena. I lost some respect for him tonight as he acted like a petulant child.

Floyd, with his win, post fight interview/apology and talk of fighting Pacroid won the match and the event. He would have won the fight a lot wider too if he would just stay off those ******* ropes! He was getting tagged way too often by someone that couldn't touch him in the centre of the ring. I really don't understand his thinking there.

Haha, Cotto almost got knocked out in the 12th. Damn I wish there were 15 rounds in some fights.

He did well, as in not being terribly over matched, but anyone giving Cotto over 2 rounds is silly.

Once again, Cotto proved his worth...the Man is a warior and didn't stop trying! He deserves all the respect in the world for being in with and extending the best in the business...

I have to admit tho, I had the fight closer than those results and so did the group of Floydiots who were watching with me hahaha anyways very good fight none the less, Massive respect to Mayweather AND Cotto!

P.S. The HBO commentating team were choking on Floyds nuts!

I gave cotto 4 and one even. I am sure he was disappointed in himself somewhat after the eight round he was not able to effectively get to mayweather, who looked like he was past 160 lbs, much larger than Cotto

Cotto gave a good performance - could have been better. His conditioning was not up to par , which was disappointing. He clearly showed he could win the fight but didnt have the energy to do it.

Strategy wise, he seemed like they had the right gameplan going in but I thought the execution could have been better. Cotto's jab was his best punch, and he didnt use it enough. He was popping Floyds head back with at will at times, yet he kept putting it away.

As you said , he should have stepped to his right on the inside and gave himself better angles to land his shots. He did it a couple of times, but not enough.

What I take from this fight is that Floyd once again looks beatable against a top-level opponent who has enough left in the tank. And this was clearly not the same Cotto from years ago. At the very least Cotto gave a reality check to the fans, the way Castillo did a long time ago, and that Oscar gave to some degree.

Hopefully Floyd stops dodging Pacquiao and we finally get to see that fight before it's too late. Pacquiao has all the tools to beat him, but time is running out for both fighters.

No, it's not silly to give him more than 2 rounds.

Cotto was damn near exhausted after the 8th (Stamina always being an issue), and Floyd proved he's not a truly high volume fighter despite having good endurance.

I think Cotto did very well winning about 4 rounds. I wish he'd have been a bit more active. I wasn't overly impressed with Mayweather tonight, but he got the win.

Leave it EVTing to the experts.

What are you talking about? Cotto's Achilles heel has always been his stamina. He showed his wind against Margo, Pac, Clottey, etc. Floyd was busting him up with punches which tired the hell out of him, and he worked so damn hard to win that 8th round like a warrior that he had spent most of his tank. If anything, Cotto proved he was immensely conditioned and that he has one hell of a heart despite having stamina issues. I was surprised he was able to take and throw as much as he could considering that issue.

I think this was his best performance. Mayweather is just on another level.
