Up there with the greatest southpaws of all-time, and the top featherweights aswell. Doesn't have the most stacked resume, but it's packed with quality with 3 wins over Howard Winstone, and further wins over the likes of Ismael Laguna, Jose Legra & Sugar Ramos. A really quality all-round southpaw, used the stance supremely well, and could box consistently for 15, aswell as bang. Really good body attack aswell, and a great left hand allround, great punch variety with it.
Considered on of Jofre's best wins, I know that. One of the last times his name came up I think it was mentioned that a criminal lack of footage on him is one of the reasons he's almost forgotten today, despite him a potential ATG. The first decade of his career he looked to be a absolute destroyed on paper, only losing one fight via DQ. Has multiple wins against ATG's as well.

ive got afew fights of his mostly highlights good pressure fighter, good fundamentals and a solid body attack a formiddable fighter ill have to wathc some more
He was shot to pieces when Jofre beat him. There's actually a decent amount. All 3 of the Winstone fights, along the Seki fight are up on Youtube. There's also footage of his bout with Johnny Famechon among others. I think his resume is actually quite stacked to be honest. Multiple wins over Winstone and Seki, along with wins over Famechon, Ramos, a young Laguna, Jose Legra, Dwight Hawkins, Baby Luis, Raul Rojas, Frankie Crawford, etc. Fantasic fighter all in all, with a very collected and patient style. Normally wouldn't really get into his groove until the mid to late rounds, when his swarming body/head attack would leave opponents overwhelmed regardless of what had taken place up until that point. The second Winstone fight is an all time classic and a great example of this. I had Winstone slightly ahead after 10 rounds, at which point Saldivar turned it into high gear and gave him a thorough beating throughout the final 5 to secure a lop-sided victory on the cards (that's how one-sided those last 5 rounds were). Winstone actually thought he was robbed on the grounds that he did enough during the early rounds to keep the lead. I guess the beating left his memory a little shoddy.
from my memory i have Laguna, Seki, Famechon, and about 3 or 4 other HLs i wouldnt say theres hardly any footage, theres definitly enough to gauge how good he is
Most definitely NOT one of Jofre's best wins. Though I would still like to see the fight, footage of Jofre/Saldivar is always appreciated, at whatever stage of their careers.
Saldivar was one of those fighters who didn't always look spectacular, but consistently managed to win, and against some very classy fighters - ie: Ramos, Laguna, Legra, Famechon, etc. He was an aggressive southpaw technician (not really a brawler), fairly good at picking off punches and countering with his straight left. His most impressive performances were against Ramos, who he outclassed in a brutal war, and his blowout of Robertson. Ramos had been pretty red hot for a year or two prior to that, and Robertson was known as the "uncrowned champion" after losing a highly disputed decision to Ramos. By the time of his 2nd defense against Winstone, it seemed (at least to me) that he might be slipping a bit, possibly from the effort to make weight. His "comeback" feat against Legra and Famechon a few years later was very impressive though. I do believe the loss to Jofre is something of a mar against him, though. Even though Saldivar was definitely past his prime then, Jofre was by far the older and more faded of the two. Incidentally, that was a fight that in talks to happen several years earlier, when Jofre was the bantam champ, provided Jofre successfully defended against Harada - which of course didn't happen.
Actually, almost all of his notable fights are on film - Ramos, Laguna, Famechon, Winstone (all three), Rojas, Seki, Legra, Robertson, Luis, Shibata, and a few others I think. A number of them are on youtube, BTW.
