''Inside the Numbers: When this fight was announced Johnson told Vitali that he wasn’t going to knock him out- know why? Because Johnson had no intention on winning- just surviving. Johnson landed five power shots all night!- throwing less than five per round. Speaking of throwing, Vitali’s 749 thrown jabs is a CompuBox heavyweight record, shattering the previous mark of 600 jabs thrown in a fight by Owen Beck. Lennox Lewis holds the CompuBox heavyweight record for jabs landed- 213, vs. David Tua''

Over a thousand punches thrown by a 38 year old Heavyweight.

Impressive numbers from Vitali, especially in the last three rounds.

Johnson was an embarrassment to boxing. Vitali did not look too good either.

I'm surprised to see that VK threw so much - It didn't really feel that way watching it. Explains why he looked slightly gassed half way through the fight.

V high % of power punches landed too - Does that suggest his power is fading or is it simply a result of the stretch he had to put on to land with those shots? I know it's hard to get real power in at full stretch but you would expect the accumulation of that many 'power punches' to have an affect.

. . . then again, when do stats really tell the true story?

    :think

Vitali failed to land one decent punch all night.

Vitali also threw over 1,000 punches against Arreola if I remember correctly.

That's how I remembered it but having watched it at 3am after far more beer than my liver cares to deal with i thought I might have missed something.

Can't bring myslef to watch it again. It was a very disappointing fight and Johnson was an absolute disgrace.

The funny thing was that Johnson get all angry and wanted to start throwing bombs straight away the bell to end the rounds rung.

Johnson didnt want to commit and just shelled up...Its hard to look impressive against those kind of tactics...and he seemed to have a decent chin as well.

Johnson thought it would be an achievement if he acted as an unofficial sparring partner for the night.

Actually just not trying to win and getting credit for it from some US media observers was even worse than his performance.

One fight and One chance, he should have tried to win it.

David Haye better step up if he's serious about the Klitschko's. Haye wont last with a guy like Vitali who damn near can throw 1000 punches a fight.

I think Kevin Johnson survived brilliantly. The best and one of the most dangerous punching heavyweights could not hurt him let alone drop him.
A much hard punching and motivated Johnson if one exists would really worry any heavyweight out there. His defence was excellent.

I hope you are joking. It's much easier to have a great defence if you know that you have no intention of throwing any punches at any time whatsoever. I guarantee that if Kevin had actually behaved like a boxer and actually thrown punches then he would have left himself more open and would have been hit more often himself.

With his gameplan he basically accepted that he was going to lose a boring frustrating fight, if he had opted to have some balls then he would have had a slight chance of winning but Vitali would have looked a lot better.
