Exclusive: Vitor Belfort welcomes rematch against Wanderlei Silva By Guilherme Cruz Photo Eduardo Ferreira It looks like that Vitor Belfort wants Wanderlei Silvas number one ticket. Few hours after The Axe Murderer calling out Vitor Belfort in exclusive interview with TATAME, we spoke with The Phenom, who accepted the challenge and left the decision about the highly expected rematch in Dana Whites hands. Let's do it, brother. I accept it, Vitor said, praising the fighter he defeated by TKO in UFC Brazil, in 1998. Hes a great athlete, a great champion, and it would be a pleasure to fight him. Itd be a highly anticipated fight, very important for the sport. Whatever Dana (White) says Ill do, I never chose opponents and I wont do it now. But he made the challenge and Im accepting it. I just dont wanna wait for the UFC Rio to come back, I wanna fight first, he added. Will Brian Stann wait, and the UFC set the rematch between former UFC and Pride champions? Its up to you now, Dana White. Gee i can hardly wait... This is the equivalent of when Couture fought Coleman.
I'd like Belfort to be the opponent for Sonnen's comeback, whenever that is. I think Belfort would really test Chael.
That's actually a good comparison but I think Belfort has grown in character over the past few years whereas Judah has not.Vitor's loss to Silva wasn't due to a lack of character - but a technical miscalculation.
i think belfort would be way to fast, look at what frankloin did to wandy, belfort smoked franklin, i just dont want wandy to get ktfo, il take belfort by ko or decision
The fight makes sense, though it may have a similar outcome as when they fought. Wanderlei is still susceptible to fast counters, and Vitor is still fast. I really don't want to see Wanderlei vs Stann at this point. I think Stann may have too much for Wanderlei at this point, and there are some younger fighters, like Markquardt and Munoz, to match him up with. Wanderlei is still relevant, and it would be a good win. I just don't care to see it without Wanderlei winning an impressive fight first.
