Clay Guida ALWAYS attempts to improve position. Therefore to me he is very exciting to watch.

If you're seriously claiming that Pettis has one sub attempt then you didn't watch more than a minute of the fight. He had one armbar that was very close and Guida had to do more than posture up to counter it, but there were many, many attempts at subs, especially triangles that started with the wrist control that you're whining about. Also, if you're going to pretend that a shoulder strike, ANY shoulder strike is ever going to finish a fight particularly compared to a real sub then just stop watching MMA right now because you're delusional.

As for stuffing the takedown, it certainly would have been better for him if he could have, just like it would have been better for every heavyweight that fought John Ruiz to stop him from clinching. The fact that it can't be easily stopped doesn't mean it's "dominant", it means that it's safe and under the current rules behooves Guida to do it. It doesn't mean he deserves to win or be called a better fighter, it means he deserves to be lauded for his takedowns and nothing more.

    that is bollox!
even joe rogan said he is going for a triangle and stuff like that.
you could see he tried a triangle armbar and other submissions but almost 1 that he almost pulled off

That's not the same as he's got is it?
A triangle is when you for a triangle with your legs around the opponants neck and one of his arms. To sink it in you have got to get one of your feet at the back of your knee joint and squeeze, there by constricting the blood flow to your opponants brain

Getting your legs on your opponants shoulders, without locking the foot behind the knee does not equal a triangle attempt, that's what Rogan meant by 'going for' when Pettis would attempt to get into the postion to lock it in. The stats reflect this

Don't know what you are watching. MCMAP must have gone the wrong direction. Damn Ken Shamrock must have taught the Corps that **** he was doing vs. Severn at UFC 9.

How long was Guida on top, and how many submissions did he attempt? How close was he to finishing the fight, how close was he to executing a submission, or actually pounding out Pettis?

Oh? That's right. Pettis CONTROLLED Guida's wrists and they neutralized one another's ability to inflict damage on the ground at the end of the day. However, Pettis was able to get off some submission attempts that were quite close to landing. He utilized triangle attempts to improve position from the bottom, while Guida used multiple passes to improve his position from the top.

That Guida utilized his wrestling to take the fight to a position where he could not inflict any damage. As someone who can gnp, and relies on arm triangle chokes as well as guillotines, how good was his attack? And who's submission game was really neutralized given his career statistics?

Just saying. The perception of fighting is to each and their own. I didn't really think either guy dominated the other. The scoring system promotes this sort of thing where the guy in "dominant position" can rack up points and has no incentive to go for the sub. Going for the sub from top position we know usually entails risk of being reversed if you don't land it. Especially against a guy with such an active guard like Pettis, or someone like Nick Diaz, or Condit, or Miguel Torres.

That's really the way I look at it. If you want to bring up control, then you need to include the aspect of submission game which includes wrist control if you are going to inlcude top control especially when we are talking about one guy who tends to sub from the top or back with the rnc or arm triangle, vs. another guy who tends subs from the bottom with leg tringle, armbar or kagato-jime, ude-garame/gogo moves.

Totals do not work for MMA. He tried the triangle countless amount of times.
