this guy was crazy constantly comming forward ..loved his head movement ..he'd use that head like a battering ram .. going forward butting his way in to wing away at a guy .. dude was so amazing! him and pryor were simular in a lot of ways and i feel them at 140 would be one of the best fights ever in the history of boxing .. total action that'd send the punch count off the scales
I have footage of some of Armstrong's fights & of him training. For me, Henry is the second best P4P fighter in history, slightly behind Ray Robinson. Some even have Armstrong at NO.1. Talk about not taking a backward step lol!
May well have been the best ever. What's so amazing about him is that he maintained his greatness through the equivalent of five weight classes - 126, 130, 135, 140, 147. He didn't just simply "dabble" in each of these classes, he campaigned thoroughly through them. He made 19 defenses of the welter title, a record that still stands today, despite being up about 15-20 pounds from his prime weight. Even more amazing is that he should've won a piece of the middleweight title, and from a very highly regarded champion (not just some paper chump). I don't think there was a fighter that ever lived that maintained such a consistently high quality through as many weight classes as Armstrong.
You can make a strong case for him being the greatest that ever fought based on his accomplishments. He was relenteless and sort of like a mini Frazier except he was more two-fisted.
He was like Pryor in his activity level, but the styles are different. Pryor stood straight up and tossed from different positions. Armstrong came in in a crouch and slipped and ducked under punches. Armstrong was more of a mini two-fisted Frazier.
Armstrong held 3 titles at once and it could be argued that he got robbed out of the 4th. He was a monster for sure. Fearless. He probably would have moved up to HW if he could have.
when he won the welterweight title he had to prove to the authorities that he could make 140 and he did this my supping beer to get his weight up.when he beat ernie roderick in england he lost the first round while he was warming up and then pummeled roderick for the rest of the 15 rounds. he was as amazing as everybody says. he was more than a small frazier
