Hear me out, this is my theory and it might not be how you (the reader) feels about the division but logically speaking it makes sense (for the record my spelling sucks so don't pay too much attention to that aspect of my post) Many argue that the heavyweight division is weak, some argue that it is strong (mostly the klistchko fans). I believe that it is somewhere in between... is it possible that the reason why the heavyweight scene is considered weak is because the economics of boxing has changed in a way. i was watching a youtube video of boxing predictions... actually the guy's name is Dwyer on youtube (some of you might have seen him)... and he was predicting that price would lose to Tony Thomson... One very interesting thing he said is that he was surprised that David Price decided to fight TT because he was risking it all against a contender who was very dangerous. Further to his comment i wold like to add that now adays fighters don't take dangerous fights (at least ones they percieve dangerous). Due to that fact how can anyone be considered strong when they simply pad their record. So my theory is that the division isn't weak... its just that the match ups in are weak. There is plenty of talent in the division, but because fighters are waiting for their chance to cash in on that one big fight they avoid all those top fights. They aren't risking fighting eachother, why risk fighting another top contender where you risk to get a lose on your record and potentially and not getting that title shot... i mean fighting a top contender you might make a fraction of what you would fighting for the title even if you lose during that title fight. How can any division be considered strong that as soon as a prospects makes it to the top he gets shut down by the champion... Prospects gain their reputation by fighting other prospects not just fighting anybody and padding their record... this division and any other division would be considered weak when the top prospects don't do their time and build their resume... in conculsion, unless we get these guys fighting eachother the heavyweight division will always have the appearence of a weak division... but is it? i personally dont think so. thank you for wasting 5 minutes reading my rant. cheers,
i agree... they aren't doing their time. taking on a lot of easy (easier fights) and dragging it out until they are a bit older... but also some of them are starting late as well.
Good post, but in retrospect, take a long look at the golden eras of boxing, and the LOC their contenders and prospects fought on their way up to a title. Every era typically has 3-5 dominant guys....they MUST continue to fight each other, simply b/c they continually lose the title to the next guy. It's a circle jerk with the HW title(s). This era is only considered "weak" by haters of the ruling HWs b/c they are typically fans of a HW removed from prominence. And it truly must suck to be one of these haters, especially considering of ALL the past eras, it has been this one alone, in which the HW title(s) has been controlled by a single entity, ie K2. Consider this....... Ruiz grabbed a HW title during the previous era. Would he stand a snowballs chance in hell at beating the current HW champ or titlist? Would Michael Moorer? How bout Michael Spinks? Leon Spinks? I mean, ppl talk about this era like it's ****, but think about those past titlists and how they beat the man who beat the man, and think about which round the Champ or his titlist brother would KHTFO.:yep
I still say its a good dvision once Vitali retires. The thing messsing it up is the two headed monster- there just is not enough talent to go around. When Vitali retires, then Wladdy can pick up that belt, or the WBC can just degenerte into its own pointless side show, kind of like the WBA in the Ruiz-Chagaev-Valeuv black hole years. Lots of good fights for Wladdy Povetkin Pulev Fury possibly a Haye rematch Maybe Helenius if he gets his power back. Glazkov (or Scott, should he pull it out, though I am pikcing Czar). Further Down the line... Ortiz David Price will be back. No way a big, hard hitting bronze meddalist is going away. Perez Boytsov Arreola (if he is handed the WBC belt after beating Stiverne, not a bad unificationmatch). Just wish some of the damned Olympians would get in there.
