Depends - are you doing it for a leg workout or realistic head movement?
The best leg workout will be around 3.5 to 4 feet, but it'll be slow going.
Realistic head movement will be around 4.5 to 5 feet, but better make sure you're going fast.

that would be correct, However you wouldnt want that 3.5 or 4.0 in the mix he will get nothing out of it, you dont have to move your head much to get out of the way of a shot. shoulder height is ideal for weaving under shots

I went to gyms where they would put it really low and just have you do a leg workout in the name of "head movement" when it was nothing like realistic head movement.
That's why I made the disclaimer in my post.
The leg workout's not too dissimilar from duck walks or frog jumps back and forth.

its a drill i like to do may seem a little unorthadox a first but it think it helps a lot stand on the left side of the rope in your orthadox stance grab the weave rope with an ok grip so you hand can slide freely nowkeep your elbow tight to your rib and begin to advancethrow a jab over the rope double and triple the jab it works on form and all the while keeps your right hand in the proper position advance and retreat throwing jabs and hooks.

you like that right i figured that **** out just goin at it helps keep you in positions footwork too try weavin the rope or instead of a weave with you torso leanin foward and rolling try just stand in your orthodox stance and advance but bend your knees and dont weave but duck under as if you were ducking under straight punches like a squat builds your leags and will help you slip punches
