    I say "no".

It's good that the Firpo fight is on film though.

I think that Dempsey entered the ring in Toledo without gloves so it would be difficult to load them without any suspect

No, The Monte Cox link is the best explanation I have seen for the question of the loaded gloves

Although I've always questioned Doc Kearns's thinking behind the $10k bet for the 1st rd knockout

Maybe, but Dempsey was blowing people out in 1 or 2 rounds. I think in pre fight, its can stand to reason Dempsey would have a good shot to ko a inactive Willard inside a round.

After the Fred Fulton fight, I think Kearns belive Dempsey can repeat what he did earlier.

Maybe, he did amass 25 1st round KO's in the run up to the title (still a record in the HW division I believe), but what was there to believe that Willard would fall in 1? Dempsey admitted that he feared for his life in this match, I wonder what Kearns had in his mind to believe that Willard would be Ko'ed in 1? why did he get Dempsey to leave the ring so quickly after he thought Dempsey had won (maybe this was the norm at the time, or maybe the fight films of the time omit a period of time after the end of the first tround that make it seem as though Dempsey left the ring v quickly)

    5oz Sol Levinson gloves.

Dempsey loaded his gloves alright - there is a rare picture of him sticking his hands in a cement mixer giggling.

Dempsey broke the jaw of a 7' 2in giant Big Ben Wray in sparring he did it with one punch the jaw was broken in two places, over 500 people saw it.
Dempsey didnt need any help, he hit Bill Brennan so hard, Brennan fractured his ankle going down.

There's virtually no doubt that Dempsey's gloves weren't loaded.

Btw, I read the book often quoted in Cox's article, A Flame of Pure Fire what an awesome book. I keep thinking they should make a movie about Dempsey, imagine him riding the rails between fights hoping for his next meal.

They made one a few years ago , with Treat Williams playing Dempsey and Sam Waterston playing Kearns,,not a bad effort.
the guy I would have liked to see play him was Jack Palance.:good
