What am I missing?? How is it that a SUPER Fight between Calzaghe and Kessler is in serious jeopardy over 2 or 3 million dollars, yet, Ricky Hatton is able to make an offer of 10 million to PBF to come to the UK??
Joe and Kessler's purse combines for what PBF would be getting alone.
Is Ricky a far more popular fighter than Joe in the UK?? Are Team Hatton sure on HBO paying a **** load for this one, because I don't see 20,000 Americans flying nowhere to see PBF. I just want to see Calzaghe and Kessler get made.:huh

Hatton is way more popular in the UK

A fight with floyd would easily sell manchester city stadium or Wembley.
    That's about 70.000.

Plus, it's planned to be at 3 pm, so HBO can put this live on prime time, probably at PPV. So there is big money from europe and the US.

With Kessler Calzaghe there is only big money from europe, and it's a bit less

Hatton is way more popular. Although Calzaghe has raised his profile since fighting on terrestial TV his fight with manfredo (manfredo FFS) drew a massive crowd. But I doubt how many of those fans would travel.

Calzaghe vs Kessler is a Euro fight

PBF vs Hatton is a world fight

Hatton is a commoner and is seen as "one of the lads" - You can imagine Hatton getting mullered down the local.... this drunken behaviour appeals more to British fans who can go and behave the same way at fights. Also, Calzaghe supporting Italy against England at football would have pissed many English sports fans off.

Not to mention that Mayweather is nearly a household name, whereas nobody outside of scandanavia knows who Kessler is if they aren't boxing fans.

Both are very popular, but Hatton is more mainstream, whereas Calzaghe is mainly popular with just boxing fans

I understand what you're saying to an extent, but Calz/Kessler is
a world fight IMO, esp. when you consider 3 world title belts are on
the line if these two go at it. Not to mention we would see the winner as undisputed SMW Champ.:thumbsup

Yeah 3 belts would be on the line. But it's in a divison smack bang between the 2nd and 3rd most prestigous divisions in boxing. Americans aren't that big into 168 since Lacy got hammered and before that it was all about RJJ from their point of view. 168 is a European playground.

Secondly, their's not many fighters around who could bring 10,000 or more fighters around the world with them. Hatton is one of them though. Calzaghe and Kessler aren't. They would get massive crowds at home. But not abroad.

It sickens me Hatton is admired more than Joe Calzaghe, thanks to his bad traits such as alcoholism.
