What if Pacquiao vs marquez 1 had the three knock down rule. people would have sed Pacquiao is in a whole new league compareed to marquez, there would have been no rematch because he got destroyed in the first round........ what if jermaine taylor threw a few uppercuts in the second round of their first fight. he could have knocked pavlik out. there would have not been a rematch, we would all say that pavlik is a B class opponent who has a weak chin........ (where he is potentaily one of the very best fighters) like HBO countdown sez, an instant can change the face of boxing. Thoughts?
What if I had Sweet Pea's defence, Julian Jackson's power and Ali's skillset and intangibles? The rules are the rules and what happens happens.
Yep, I thought the same thing about Pavlik - Taylor I. A different ref might well have stopped that fight. Pavlik was messed up and had taken a lot of punches without answering. He probably wouldn't have gotten a rematch and we'd be talking about the 'new' Jermain Taylor.
More importantly if that had happened, and you asked som1 the possible outcome of Pavlik vs JC, they'd actually laugh there head off.
i also thought the same thing against pavlik, i watch that fight on live broadcast and when in the 2nd round pavlik was in trouble i thought it was over and said to myself that just another bum that is nowhere near the elite level. But then all this happend, and now he is on the top 10 p4p and a star in the making. pacquiao well, jmm was only meaningful that time because he had 2 belts, if pac starched him on the 1st round, there wouldn't be a rematch as he is a high risk and perhaps and i think pac will not move to 130 and stayed at 126(hard to leave 3 belts):yep
Also one of the cruelest cos one moment (either slight lapse in concentration or coming against an opponents fluke punch) can ruin plans and paydays that have taken years to get close to and unlike other sports they dont seem to be on wages (actually not sure about this point)
its true football, basketball or watever, you make a mistake ur team can back u, or u can make it up the next season. in boxing you make a mistake you hear the ref count you out and people trying to finish ur career
Yeah, it's a brutal business. One minute you're top contender, the next you'll never get a big payday again. Imagine if Williams had lost to Quintana in the second fight. He'd be done, over. When a year ago he was the supposed heir to the WW crown. Crazy sport.
It is interesting. I like to wonder about what if Pavlik hadn't been so excited and cocky, and never allowed the incident in round 2 to happen? Fighting along with round 2 looking like 1,3,4,5, and 6 did leading into round 7? Pav would be considered a friggin monster. When Pav's getting KO'd in every fantasy match-up ESB comes up with, the reason 9 of 10 times has something to do with JT hammering him in round 2.
