When did headgear emerge?

    I came across some antique sparring headgear, and the guy selling it said he thinks it is from around 1910. Did boxers use headgear that far back? I'm just wondering because I can't really find any pictures prior to the 1920s of boxers wearing headgear.

    Jack Dempsey was wearing Everlast headgear in the 1920s I believe.
    I'm not sure how much headgear there was before that.
