Hi, First post here, very excited to hear your guys input and get to be known on the forums. ANyways Ive been getting in the boxing gym the last two months, just started up sparring and I feel like Im doing good. Ive been in a lot of street fights and always been able to hold my own. But I was wondering when do you guys think I should go in have my first amateur fight? I know I should wait for my trainer to tell me Im ready in his eyes, but Im so eager to just fight in the ring already. Im 19 years old and our Thursday night fights here in anchorage are really ghetto. Usually first night fighters are street kids or cracked out men looking for a hopeful 150$. I have a slim build, Im 6 foot tall My normal weight is 155 but I can drop to 145 in a week to make weight easily. Thanks!

Dont be egger, a boxer will always beat a street fighter, fitness is the key in amateur boxing as long as the basics are in place, ask your coach to spar with someone who is clearly better than you to see how you cope for 3x2min rounds
this will give you and your coach an idea of were can be improved.
Waste energy in boxing you will get punished for it

Don't list street fights as experience, it makes you look foolish.

Really you should train for about a year before you think about having an amateur fight but for all we know you could have absolute god given talent. Post up a video of you sparring and we will know the level you are at and give an accurate answer. Your coach will know when you are ready and he will tell you.

As the above posters have said, theres a lot of difference between street fighting and boxing.

It's good to see that you're eager to box, so the best thing is to ask your trainer when he thinks you're ready. He might put you in with better sparring just to see how you cope. Discipline is very important aswell as the boxing skill.

Who are you training with up there? I used to go to the Thursday night fights when I lived in Alaska as well

To be honest you sound like a real hard guy, a seriously tough mother****er

Skip the amateur stuff. You are made for the pro game
