When do you think Fury was at his best? Was it before his comeback, or was it after? I think the closest thing we've seen to a prime Fury would be the Wlad fight, although he was also really good in the Wilder rematch. Thoughts?

I think we saw the absolute best Fury in the 2nd Wilder fight. Then for what ever reasons there was he wasn’t quite as sharp in the 3rd Wilder fight but close. Then in the Whyte he looked about on par with the 2nd Wilder fight. Chisora fight he never really got out of 2nd gear.

Basically we’ve seen the best of Fury pretty recently. Now at 34 years old expect to see a decline. Whether that be slow or fast we shall see.

I want Usyk to beat the absolute best Fury and we will most likely see that. Fury isn’t going to take Usyk lightly.

I reckon history and the media will remember 'The Big Dossers' prime as just before he stepped into the ring with Usyk.

As a boxer.. Chisora 2, Hamer and Klitschko (Nandrolone Fury)

    As a fighter… Wilder 2 (Kronk Fury)

Yeah I agree I think physically Fury was in his prime when he fought Wlad at the age of 27, however like I said in another thread, imo mental aspects of Fury's game will continue to improve with age which will help compensate for physical decline. I'm 30 now and I felt physically in my prime when I was about 26, 27, but I'm far smarter now. I think the same applies to ring IQ.

It doesn't really have any in my opinion. He can come fully prepared for one fight (Schwarz, Wilder II, Whyte) and be at 70-80% capacity the next.

I would actually argue we've never seen a proper prime physical performance. And now we never will. Because of Fury's erratic behaviour.

It should have been the Wlad fight and rematch. Around that age was probably his physical+experience prime. Could even have been the few years before physically, but he didn't have the experience quite yet.

Problem is he didn't perform at his best in the Wlad fight. He said as much and I believe him. His reason was that he basically had a fat camp and was somewhat drained/weakened with muscle mass. He blamed himself and wanted to stop having fat camps because it was hampering him. In a way he managed to solve that recently but now he's not prime.

Then during the years he should have been around his peak he was an AWOL obese wreck.

He came back and showed his skills versus Wilder I, but was not quite match-fit, so we didn't get 100% either. He'd just had one huge fat-camp really.

In the Wilder rematch he maybe was closest to his physical+experienced best, but was actually a little heavy and had the skin tyre from his AWOL obesity.

    Now he's mid 30s.

    So the ship has sailed.

Btw, Usyk isn't prime either, so this isn't an excuse for Fury. They both are around the same post-prime period, so it evens out in that sense. That makes it very different to the Canelo-Golovkin fight where Canelo always had a massive youth advantage.
