He had his big win over Julio Diaz ten months ago and nothing since, what gives? I noticed he has fought only once a year the last three years...why?

He's fighting Funeka for the vacant IBF strap soon. Think he'll have to go to South Africa.

Interesting name. He did have a HUGE win over Julio Diaz but I'm almost certain he wasn't their main choice to win. Unless I'm mistaken, Rolando was a last minute (two-three weeks?) replacement after Joel Casamayor dropped out. He KO'd Julio in a boring fight but definitely should've rode that momentum onto something bigger.

IIRC Both Juan Diaz and Michael Katsidis were offered fights against Rolando and both of them turned it down. Juan Diaz instead took a fight with Malignaggi and Katsidis wound up fighting Escobedo, a fight GBP had to practically beg him to take. Since then Rolando hasn't been heard from.

That should be a good one if it goes down. It isn't on boxrec yet.

The only reason he even fought Diaz was because Casamayor dropped out, the man is so inactive. I don't know if he is avoided but he needs to start fighting 3 times a year even if it's against cans.

If he's fighting Funeka, the winner could go fight the WBC CHAMP Valero.

Yeah, the fight was actually supposed to be the co-feature to Valero-DeMarco last weekend. But Funeka's manager wants the fight in South Africa, where I'm assuming he feels they could get a fair shake.

No, it's not that. The fight went to purse bid, and Branco Milenkovic (South Africa's biggest promoter, but NOT Funeka's promoter) won the bid for about $140,000, so the fight will be in South Africa.
