It was pretty clear to me early on that Marquez was fighting on old legs. It's a credit to his incredible overall skill that he could overcome his reduced mobility.

Why, after all of the talk of increased versatility and movement, didn't Freddie have Manny throw one counter uppercut on those slow forward lunges Marquez was making, especially in the early rounds? Was I just seeing things, or was that punch just screaming to be thrown?

Because Manny really can't deal with JMM when he chooses to box. Can't do it.

Manny just Jab and just throw punches, there was little hook and power punches.
But that 3rd round KD was really impressive, also that counter that staggered MArquez on the late rounds. It may not be a superb power punch but I can't imagine if its a clean power punch.

That right there is when I thought the fight would be over. But Marquez has heart to go along with his skillz

That was a beautiful shot. He countered the counterpuncher. Then he spent the rest of the fight groping for that exact same shot.

I think Manny should recapture his old aggressiveness. Without knowing the old maxim, he actually demonstrated it: The best defense is offense. Keep discombobulating someone with constant pressure and aggression and he can't get his own rhythm going. Now that Manny has much better skills, this is an even better time to be the aggressor and less tentative. He was showing too much respect for JMM. Well, I think JMM could not otherwise get himself established if Manny had been his old whirlwind self as he was in his first fight with MAB.
