Jeffries wasa long term sparring partner of Corbett, though I don't know of him dropping Gentleman Jim.

Have you read "in this Corner" when Smith talks about his fight with Jess Willard. Don't remember it exactly but he said he hit Willard with a shot and ripped his ear clean off and then matter of factly "of course the gloves were loaded". Willard didn't even blink. Always makes me laugh

I need a copy of that book. I remember I kept seeing it in the bookshop when I was younger, but I'd always walk out with another boxing book and tell myself I'd get it next time. And some of the books I bought then weren't even good.

 

Do yourself a favour and get it. It is a great read, all them old fighters in their own words and times.
