Have you read "in this Corner" when Smith talks about his fight with Jess Willard. Don't remember it exactly but he said he hit Willard with a shot and ripped his ear clean off and then matter of factly "of course the gloves were loaded". Willard didn't even blink. Always makes me laugh
:good I need a copy of that book. I remember I kept seeing it in the bookshop when I was younger, but I'd always walk out with another boxing book and tell myself I'd get it next time. And some of the books I bought then weren't even good.
Do yourself a favour and get it. It is a great read, all them old fighters in their own words and times.
