Haven't i heard you call Pernell considerably past prime against Hoya though, even though he was p4p no.1??? Seems like a double standard to me, although i am only going from memory here...

DLH was p4p # 1 when he faced Whitaker, NOT Whitaker. And that's why DLH was a 3-1 favourite going into the fight, NOT Whitaker.

And Chavez was more than a 2-1 favourite going in against Whitaker.

    Just going from facts here:good

IMO, any advantage Chavez gets in strength by the fight occuring at 140 he loses because Whitaker would have been even sharper and faster at 140 than he was at 145.

In any case, Chavez did not find Whitaker enough to even make a reasonable argument that his strength would have made a difference at 140.

IMO, a similar type fight happens at 140, and at 135 again, Chavez gets the same treatment.

You scorecard was as follows: Chavez rounds 1,2,5,6,9 and 12. Whitaker rounds 3,4,7,8,10 and 11.

As to your point about punch stats, the extent of your argument was to argue that Chavez landed just as many power shots as Whitaker, and actually landed more powershots over 7 of the 12 rounds. You then dismissed the almost 100 more jabs that Whitaker landed over the fight which saw him outland Chavez in about 10 of the 12 rounds.

Punchstats are unreliable, but dismissing Whitaker's jab (as you did as being most of the times little more than a paw which wouldn't even tickle Chavez's nose) is also HIGHLY unreliable :good

It wasn't the most exciting fight or anything, but it's boxing at the highest level between two opponents as has been seen in the last 25 years.

    whitaker whooped chavez ....

He beat chavez at his own game ! Whitaker was landing the better body shots all night ! The jab was in Chavez face all night long, straight lefts, uppercuts all while making chavez miss all night long....

What more can you ask for ?

All that you can say about Chavez that night is that he was a tough guy because he ate alot of great bodyshots and flush shots to the head.

At one point in the fight in the middle rounds chavez was actually back peddeling and moving around side to side with Whitaker stalking him !

Its a boring fight if you love chavez because he couldn't do sh*t otherwise its a great fight !

    118-112 for me.

At the ABSOLUTE worst, being completely bias and generous for Chavez - it was still 8 rounds to 4 = 116-112 for Whitaker.

This word gets thrown around a lot, but this fight is the VERY definition of the word ROBBERY. In fact, a picture of the pre/post-fight poster should be put in the dictionary next to the word.

I had it 117- 111. Whitaker clearly outboxed Chavez, the draw was the worst decision I have ever seen along with Lewis - Holy I.
Like my man Scientist posted, many magazines thought so.

If the fight happened at lightweight both would have been enhanced physically and their skills would have brightened even more. But the speed of hand and foot would have suited Whitaker more than Chavez simply based on their styles and approach.

    Whitaker would have schooled him.

I had it 116-112 for Whitaker. There were their share of close rounds, and I don't think it was as bad as a number of other decisions I've seen.

However, Whitaker won more of his rounds by a wider margin. Chavez's rounds (that I gave him) were close. Whitaker's weren't as close. While I had it 8-4, it was a wide 8-4, like Mayweather-Judah. Floyd's rounds were clearer than Zab's.

    Lewis-Holyfield I was worse than Whitaker-Chavez.

Did you read my post thoroughly? I mentioned that Chavez was not as his peak for this fight, and I mention it every time I bring the fight up. And as Scientist said, Pea was actually NOT rated #1 at the time, considering how off he'd looked in previous performances.
