    I never won a World Title but I got my chance in one title fight. I won the fight on points but I needed to KO him to claim the title;
    I fought 36 times against Hall of Famers...36 times!
    I fought more than 20 times against pure undeniable ATG's;
    I fought 47 times against Champions...47 times!
    My record is clearly one of the toughest you may find although not many people remember me;
    Let's say that outside of the most known fighters that I beaten, I scored wins over the likes of Dave Kurtz, Young Fisher, Bryan Downey, Terry Mitchell and Marty Cross....ah, let's not forget Jack McCarron!
    In the year of 1918 alone, I had 10 fights against ATG's;
    I'm a proud man of my Jewish heritage;
    I speak german but I wasn't born in Germany;
    I served in the American Army and I fought not far away from my hometown.
    I was born in the Ides of March, around the day that the Senators - including Caius Marcus Brutus - put an end to the life of Julius Caesar;

    Who am I?

    Soldier Bartfield was vey prolific during that era and was never a world champion as far as I know. I remember reading about this guy years ago and absolutely loving his name. Soldier! Seriously, I love it! Anyway I think it may well be him

    Not too knowledgeable on him so it's an educated guess, but I'll go with Sam Langford.

    And I'm virtually certain you're correct, Vic. Great shout.

    And, assuming you consider newspaper decisions as wins, holds one of the best wins in history, when he beat my #2 p4p ATG Harry Greb, who was prime and outweighed him by 14lbs.

    Ah yes, beating the magnificent Harry Greb, the greatest boxer that has ever lived in many people’s eyes, ( newspaper victory notwithstanding) was indeed an incredible victory for Soldier!

    Trust me there’ll be stuff you guys know about boxing history that others don’t and vice versa. Certainly with me, I seem to be learning new things on this forum all the time…it sometimes feels like I’m back at school haha!

    I don’t know if we ever graduate, but I’m proud to matriculate at the University of Classic Forum. A true ivory tower dedicated to the learning of pugilism.
