Who can beat Monzon?

I've rarely seen him lose a fight in fantasy match ups. Who can do the trick? :think

 

At middleweight, no one. He stayed in his ideal division, and can't be faulted for that.

 

Roy Jones ended up ahead of Monzon in my poll, I'll bump it shortly.

 

I don't know anyone who would be a clear favorite over Monzon at MW. He was one of the best ever technicians at this weight; even someone as awesomely talented as Ray Robinson could have big problems with his style.

 

Very, very tough. The obvious would be Sugar Ray Robinson but I'm not sure he'd beat a prime Monzon at middleweight. Overall I see Monzon the bigger, more powerful guy and the superior middleweight beating Ray by a close decision and coming from behind to do so.

The guy I have winning against him is Marvin Hagler. The other great middleweight. Again a very close fight but I feel Hagler's quicker and just takes it with a late stoppage. I cant see many other middleweights capable of stopping him though.

 

A few guys would have good shots, like Robinson, Hagler, or Hopkins, but I wouldn't expect anyone at 160 to do it.

 

Gerald McClellan on his best night has a chance due to his size,speed and power.

Usual suspects could do it but I wouldnt pick them.

Hagler, Robinson or Hopkins.

I do still think Roy stylistically could spell big trouble for him..and if you were to extrapolate a bit of his supermiddle form it wouldnt be such a crazy pick.
Basing it purely on his 160 form however its a big stretch.

 

Offhand, Hagler, Robinson, and Jones Jr. are three who come to mind.

 

McClellan would be outclassed. He was far too lacking skill-wise despite his power, which probably wasn't much better (if any better) than Valdez's anyway.

As to the question, he could be beaten (it's not like he was head and shoulders above everyone he ever fought in the first place), but I don't think I'd favor any MW to beat him on his best night. I think a few could've perhaps beaten the version of his later years, but at his peak circa the Benvenuti and first Griffith fights, I wouldn't say so. Not over 15 rounds, and definitely not in a series.

 

Hagler and Jones but not Hopkins. Never Hopkins. Hopkins is not part of the elite class

Monzon would win comfortably on points

 

I think harry greb would have a good chance of out working monzon

 

I would confidently pick Jones, Hopkins, Hagler and Robinson over her at MW with confidence. I would also give good chances to Greb, Nunn, GMAN, Toney, McCallum, Leonard and these fights are 50-50s.

MW version of Charles/Moore/Burley/Marshall/Holman Williams would be big threats but we just dont have the film of them.

Then there are dark horses like Dick Tiger, Kalambay, Herol Graham, Hearns, Nigel Benn, Eubank, Fullmer, Lamotta who I wouldnt pick but wouldn't be too suprised to pull off the upset, actually if he fought all of that bunch does anyone not see 1 or 2 upsetting him?

MW is a very deep division and Monzons style has exploitable weaknesses

 

I'd say Hagler, but wouldn't feel overly confident. Wouldn't feel confident picking Monzon over Marv either. Close as it comes, fantasy wise.

 

George Foreman could probably do it in his prime.
