Slappy Joes legacy will be one of ducking to the point that if you shake his hand firmly enough you'll hear a quack.
    Ducked Jones in his prime
    ducked Glenncoffee Johnson
    ducked Pavlik
is currently ducking Dawson and Tarver or any other lightheavy with the remote chance of blasting his sorry ass. If Only there were still a Michael Spinks or Dwight Muhammed Qawi or Holyfield roaming the LH Division to blast this fraud to pieces like the alan Minter clone that he is.

    that's right!

you want the man you do the work to make yourself marketable and to be taken seriously enough on the world stage.

joe calzaghe ducked a rematch with robn reid who had given him hell in there first fight. reid was on an 11 fight win streak but instead calzaghe fought the likes of tocker pudwil, will macintyre, kabery saleem etc etc rather than a big domestic rematch with reid.

thats the problem with Calzaghes record - he is a top fighter cos he has some real big wins like Jeff Lacy and Mikkel Kelsser - but his record his padded out with so many bums

he is a sports network fighter

sometimes I think Frank Warren ducks fighters on behalf of his fighters more than the fighters themselves

    warren's notorious for it.

lacy, in hindsight, was grossly over-rated though, but full credit to joe for demolishing him.

kessler win is the best one IMO - but again, it's no prime jones or hopkins, is it?

Heck look at Gary Lockettes record 31-1 with 21 KO'S its that easy to pad over there if he fought 30 more guys there he would be 61 and 1 with what 40 -45 KO'S

Imagine Pavlik over there fighting the Tucker Pudwells and a row of cans
what his record would look like. Its amazing.

pavlik's the middleweight champ on the biggest stage of all.

he can't, and won't, figth "cans" for a living.

THAT'S what it means to hold your water in the US and it makes you more marketable and a legitimate opponent for genuine world class fighters.

Warren does it a lot - look at Ricky Hatton 38-0 prior to the Tszyu fight, yet some of his better wins came earlier in his career, between 25-32, as opposed to a steady progression. This was why Hatton got pissed off and ended up leaving.

Certainly, Robin Reid was worthy of a rematch, certainly more worthy than pretty much all of Joe's challengers throughout his reign as WBO champion. It really pisses me off, because Joe is so good that he could have beaten almost all of the names that Warren ducked for him.

Hatton is much the same, he could be accused of ducking DeMarcus Corley and Vivian Harris, yet he could have walked through them with one hand tied behind his back!!

    Thanks for the correction :patsch

Pretty much every SN fighter has a padded record, it is nothing new over here, and very few fans actually buy into the hype unless you see the guys that have genuine talent.

Naz, Hatton and Calzaghe are the three prime examples, whilst most recognise Amir Khan as having plenty of talent but the tiresome bandwagon toward the WBU strap rolls on........

Tyson would have dropped the title to face Seldon, as he eventually did. This forfeiting of the title on the part of Tyson could and did create bad blood between Maloney and King, which delayed both the Holyfield and the Tyson wins.

It wasn't a case of Lewis taking money not to fight Tyson, it was a case of Lewis taking money for not getting a WBC title shot but having the presumed opportunity of fighting Tyson. Of course, Tyson opted to give up the WBC belt to fight Bruce Seldon for the WBA title, much as Riddick Bowe gave up the WBC belt to avoid fighting Lewis in 1993.

Basically, Tyson spent his second title reign paying Lewis money and giving up belts in order to fight the likes of Bruce Seldon and a (then considered) washed-up Holyfield rather than face Lennox Lewis. I don't like to throw around words like "ducked", since it's used to describe everything from fighting an alternative opponent to moving up in weight, but I can't see how anyone could argue that Tyson didn't duck Lewis in 1996. Lewis was the most logical opponent out there and Tyson did everything he could not to fight him.

Don king never wanted Tyson to fight Lewis - he even said it when they fought in 2002 - when Tyson had nothing to lose.
