Does Ben Shalom really own Boxxer? Just looking at companies House records and it shows him as - cessation of Benjamin Saul Shalom as a person with significant control on 12 May 2022 If that is the case who is in charge now?
From what I heard Ben had to take on some significant capital to bid for events. He also did this on the early days with rumours of some Kinahan financing. but from what I have heard, however not completely sure that it’s correct. Sky now own a large stake in boxxer similar to the Matchroom USA And DAZN deal. it’s the reason everyone keeps calling them Sky/boxxer and Ben is told what events to put on etc. It was the reason Ben bidder for Fury vs Whyte if he won he was supposed to put a £3m deposit down. His company doesn’t have £3m in liquid cash. So likely Sky we’re fronting the money. Sky then benefit from having complete say over their contracted promoter and are not left in a position like Hearn where they take the entire stable away. It’s the same reason Adam smith is always in the room and making offers as who he wants on Sky and not leaving it to Ben
He’s the son of a very wealthy Jewish family. He had a £750k loan to set up the company - but from who? It wasn’t a bank.
Why would Sky buy into it? To my knowledge they don't do it with other sports, they simply leverage their audience and their rights fees spend to make sure they effectively control the sport. Promoters have used guaranteed rights fees for years to make sure they can get fights ahead. Totally get the wish to avoid another Matchroom style departure but taking even part-ownership of a promoter seems a bit extreme. In any event it must have been a complete legal balls-up to allow that to unfold at such short notice in the first place.
