i cant see anyone doing it. now that calz is going to 175, the division is his for the taking. He already beat the greatest threat to him at 168 in mundine and lacy is finished.
great choice my good man...i cant believe i forgot dawson. Dawson is the only person i could think of being close. Dawson should clean up 175 and kessler do the same at 168 and then fight in 2009
I have not seen enough of him but eredi is also a fighter that might beat him but I doubt KO kessler. Anyone who is more familar with eredi think he might be able to beat kessler?
I think kessler v froch would be the best fight in the division. Maybe one more fight against another number 1 contender would increase the interest for Froch. From what ive heard kessler might be a little to much Discipline to get countered by Froch. Im still to catch the kessler calzaghe fight since im stuck out in afgan till the new year but ill make a more educated decision once ive seen the fight for myself
going by the mendoza fight erdei is going backwards in his career he gave a very poor performance in that one. seen all erdei`s world title fights , scored 2 very close fights against him v garay, by far his toughest opponent. the rest of the fights have been gimmee`s he could and did win with his eyes closed souhounne and ulrich probably being the best or outboxing gonzales. personally i think the much taller kessler with his particular style and handspeed , keeps erdei on the outside and erdei will be reluctent to come in and take chances against the kessler right hand and would lose a u/d and his cautious pot shotting style would not be enough in this particular style match up.
Dawson has the best chance to defeat Kessler with his speed and skills but his suspect chin could be the deciding factor. Kessler is a VERY ACCURATE PUNCHER, maybe the best between LMW and CW and he is unlike anyone Dawson has ever faced (including Adamek who could land only one big punch but he almost won the fight with that). Dawson has all the goods to be a P4P-er (just like Kessler) but his lack of a good chin is a too big weakness against the skilled powermachine. Just look at the punches Mikkel threw against Calzaghe, he hurt the Dragon a few times who's chin and heart was good enough to fight back. Even in the very last 5 seconds Kessler was fast, accurate and powerful enough to land flush. No way that Dawson can take a big, quick, accurate Kessler uppercut and Kessler's good enough (hell yeah he's good) to land some. On paper Dawson is the guy who has the biggest chance to beat Kessler, on points. But in a 12 round fight against an always coming Dane I see him loosing by KO. He could be ahead on the scorecards but I won't matter. Dawson has one of the most unfortunate weaknesses in boxing just like Juan Diaz' and Ivan Calderon's punching power, Amir Khan's chin or De La Hoya's stamina. But it's there and it's a big factor just like everything else in boxing.
Bute would give him a fight, but probably lose on points. He should clean up 168, although Dawson could outpoint him at 175. Not sure though...
Kessler beats everyone at 168. He beats any middleweight who tries to step up ie a Pavlich/Taylor. Dawson at 175lb would be his closest fight. As has been mentioned Dawson has the armoury to challenge Kessler just as Kessler has the attributes to put Dawson in trouble. I would not like to call this fight personally.
None of them can KO him Aside from Calzaghe, Dawson is the only one with a chance, although I reckon Kessler would come out on top
