    (named after his father) changed his name to Cassius X.

    Obviously following Malcolm X.

    Now was that an original thought, or was it a religous belief, or did someone convince him to convert his religion, to help avoid the obvious, U.S. Military Service.

    That was the perception throughout the media, and pretty much America in 1963/1964.
