Southpaws are successful in all other classes except for heavyweight it seems. What is it about being a heavyweight that makes fighting as a Southpaw a major disadvantage?

Only Twins make HW boxing gloves for left handed people, and no one wants to wear those.

I know, but he's the only Southpaw heavyweight champ ever. Thing is, I don't know enough about boxing to know why he's the only Southpaw ever.

EDIT *: My bad, Corrie Sanders had a cup of coffee with the title too.

Thanks, forgot about Byrd. Interestingly enough, another guy who moved up from light-heavy like Moorer.

Didn't even realize Chagaev and Ibragimov were lefties, I'd only seen their highlights and never noticed.

Strange that there were 4-5 this past decade and 0 the previous 100 years.

Corrie Sanders was the best south paw in heavyweight history. He could been heavyweight champion years ago and kept the titles for years, but he was not promoted correctly. Ask Bobby Czyz about Sanders. He was so quick with that left cross, extremely powerful also, but you could not see it coming, he was called the "Sniper" for a reason. I followed his entire career for years.
